Will pro sports ever be the same?

I'm for steroid use. I don't necessarily respect the people who do it (at all), but let 'em shrank their jank if they want. Besides, new competitive levels can be reached with performance enhancing drugs -- if people want to keep seeing records be broken, they may have to accept the fact that drugs are the only way. If they don't mind seeing greatness repeat itself at the same level over and over, so be it. But even if steroid use is legalized, the original, "clean" record setters will be distinguished and remembered separate from the ones who had some help. So, I say let the games begin.

Come on, they're going to do it anyway and try to hide it. Just regulate it, and the sport will become more entertaining as the athletes are able to do feats never seen before.

Look.......athletics are one thing........ENTERTAINMENT..........and I'm much more entertained watching a player hit 60 home runs than 20. I'm all for allowing Dr. prescribed performance enhancers. Hell........don't pro football players take injections to reduce inflammation and numb pain so they can play when otherwise they may not be able to. Isn't that using pharmacuticals to do things that their bodies otherwise wouldn't allow them to do????? What in the hell is the difference???????? We don't live in a perfect world......so let's quit trying to make these guys hide it. Money's tight......if I'm gonna pay to see a game I want the most bang for my buck..........if steroids can help these guys liven up the show a bit........why not???????

Ok all you juice haters! So your telling me just becuase you take roids you are cheating? Is this substance not available for every major league player. No matter how big you get you still need hand eye cordination to hit a ball 400 feet or make bone crushing hits on the footballfield. If a major league player wants to make a choice to take steroids and suffer in the long run so be it. Let him break records and put on a show for all the fans who pay to go see incredibale momements like this.

Side: Juice

Absolutely, taking steroids is an individual choice, and it may build muscle, but it certainly doesn't help players see an 100 mph any better or hit a golf ball any further.

It is believed that Steroids have got a pretty bad reputation; they enlarge the heart, mess up our hormones and cause acne and mood disorders. However people continue to use it so there must be some positive effects of steroids. Someone who is on steroids will experience increased physical performance in all sports and athletic pursuits and will also appear more physically imposing – these being the main positive effects of steroids. Secondly, Used in small amounts steroids may also have certain health benefits and can be used to prevent swelling of organs such as the kidneys as well as muscle wasting diseases such as muscular dystrophy. Finally, as testosterone is the ‘male’ hormone, it can help with many traits generally associated with ‘maleness’. This may be useful for someone who feels they are overly feminine or would like to be more imposing. For instance, steroids can increase facial hair, it can deepen the voice and it can improve drive, ambition and focus. For these reasons these can be considered positive effects of steroids. To sum up, because of all above mentioned reasons I am for using steroids. Moreover, an important additional note is that the steroids prescribed by doctors for illnesses such as cancer, leukemia etc.

If an athlete can afford steroids, then he should be allowed to take them.

Sports are supposed to be about fair competition and not about who is able to find the most juice that they can pump in their body. If they start allowing steroids then professional sports will turn in to the WWE soon. It sets the wrong example for kids who look up to these athletes. I think each sport needs to start implementing tougher steroids testing and increase the penalty for people who are found guilty.

I agree that it doesn't set a great example for children. But it is a parent's job to educate and warn their kids about the dangers and issues of morality surrounding performance enhancing drugs. Eventually, the children will be old enough to decide for themselves and then no one else can really have a say in how they choose to use their body.

Let's not forget anabolic steroids are illegal in the United States... also, we have to consider what effect it will have on our participation and acceptance in international competition.

That's a very good point, Jared. But in many cases (not all), once an athlete becomes "professional," (as in they are being paid for their specific sport), aren't they no longer allowed to perform in the Olympics? I know this is true for figure skaters -- but that's only one example. And you're right that no matter the sport that is allowing drug use, it will still probably affect our country's image in athletics as a whole.

I also realize this will affect our acceptance in other international competitions such as the World Cup and FIBA, not just the Olympics.

Besides the obvious facts stated, think of the other athletes who have morals and will not turn to cheating antics to gain an edge. I would not want to be in a position in a contact sport such as football, hockey, or boxing, going up against some juiced up animal, when all I have is my natural size and talent. We'd all love to see it happen, but realistically, this isn't the Rocky saga (actually, we all know he was juiced to so I guess even more in line, it's not David and Goliath). In addition, these players put themselves through enough; if the regulators gave them the go-ahead to juice, they would all but have no choice and that would leave them with even worse health issues later in life. These player associations are already trying to deal with the issues players and their families have to deal with today, this would only make it worse. Lastly, careers would last no where close to what they can do now for a couple different reasons. Players would be killing each other, and would not want to play as long in order to limit the years off their lives they already have to face. Most of this is mostly addressing the issue if it was allowed in contact sports, but that's just what interests me more. Baseball's a good sport and all, but every time a record is being broken, it's yet another droid and we just have to prove that he is juicin'.

Agreed. Steroids tarnish the integrity of baseball's role models and the integrity of the game itself.

OH HELLZ No, because first off steroids fuck a person up, they shrink your dick and your masculinity goes way down and mood swings and shit. We can't have that on our football fields and baseball fields and shit like that.

I'm 40 years old and 5-11 259 with 17-18¿at. I have went from 90 lbs at 13 to this without these chemicals. Steroids should be legal in society but definitely illegal in sports. Steroids are for shortcut takers. Athletic success should never be based on who can get the best chemicals- what a joke. Make a kid take the smack to compete. Try doing it the old fashion way like I did for 25 years.

Steroids are harmful to the body. They morph it into something it was never meant to be! Whatever happened to "natural talent"?

It would turn competitive sport into yet another sector with a high financial entry point. The world is plutocratic enough.

Side: No Juice

I say no.

Some people wonder why congress even gets involved in these issues. Simple answer: Money. As long as this much money is involved in sporting events, the government will try and regulate it.

From a moral standpoint this can also be devastating. The message this sends to people in all walks of life? You must cheat to stay on top.

It's getting close to that point. Think about it.

Roger Clemens, the greatest pitcher of our time and arguably the greatest batter of all time, Barry Bonds, have both been associated with the use of steroids or HGH. The greatest female olympian of all time, Marion Jones, as well. Floyd Landis, who won the tour de France, same thing. The fact that the greatest athletes of our time have been cheaters does not help my cynical view of life one bit.

The message this sends to people is that if you want to make it in life, cheat. And for those who don't have the capacity or resources to cheat? Just give up.

What does this do to the younger generation if we allow the use of steroids in professional sports. Its basically saying its ok to use steroids and we are promoting it. You know young student athletes will do anything to get to the professional level. I f we eliminate it now in professional sports and the younger generation sees that, they will be less likely to try them.
