It depends. I think if you murder many people, There should be something more than prison. The death penalty is a punishment if you murder many other people. On the other hand though, it should be OBVIOUS the person murdered before anything happens to them. You shouldn't take another person's life without knowing FOR SURE why.

Every murder conviction should be 100% sure. If there were any room for doubt the person should have been found not guilty in the first place.

But because our law system is not perfect, and because not everyone tells the truth under oath, many innocent people have been found guilty. That type of thing can ruin or even end someone's life.

No one will ever know "for sure" if or why a criminal committed his or her crime. There will always be a tiny, tiny chance that we do not have all the facts, and that 0.00000000000001% chance that the person is innocent will always be there. If we choose to ignore that chance, the death penalty is not longer justice, it to is murder.

Get rid of it, and there will always be one more person who does something so terrible people will think it needs to come back. If Adam Lanza survived, he should have been executed.

No one. That is why we have juries

If we were 100% sure of guilt, the persons crimes were severe and the person wasn't able to be rehabilitated it could make sense to sentence people to death. The problem is that we're never 100% sure; many convictions are later overturned by new evidence and we cannot undo a death sentence.

Side: Stop death penalty

Agreed. The question of whether a murderer should deserve the death penalty is one question, but the death penalty is irreversible, unlike life in prison. That is an important point that should be addressed by those who support the death penalty.

After all, how can you be 100% sure that the person actually commited the crime? Witnesses can be dishonest, DNA evidence can be misleading. Unless there is a significant change in the law system and it was possible to be 100% sure of guilt, we cannot do the death penalty.

Most people are put on death row for murder. If we kill people because they killed people, that makes us murderers also. Many will say that the death penalty is justice, but the victim must have done something to aggravate the criminal. All criminals have a motive. We say the death penalty is justice, yet it is just a crime to, and the crime is the motive. In the eyes of the criminal, the murder of his or her victim is justice.

There is a clear distinction between kill and murder. Murder is the immoral or illegal taking of someone's life. Killing is the moral and legal or immoral and illegal taking of someone's life. When someone murders someone else, we kill them. Not murder them. It is completely moral and legal to kill a murderer. Despite common belief, even the Bible endorses capital punishment.

To a certain degree I agree with the death penalty, but I think that the judges of this country lack the morality to make these calls. If the death penalty were soley up to the people (petition), I would support it. As it stands, I don't believe the justice is effective enough to decide a person's life.
