Yeah many South-East Asian countries' students do so and so far has been proved quite good a persuasive weapon.

Certainly for the young blood it's not wise to take to the streets and go for a hunger strike to meet their demands;it might even force the parents to do so.

I don't understand what this is in reference to. Can a hunger strike work for certain things? Sure. But what are these "students" fighting for?

the "students" here may be high school through college age people.

also the thing they're fighting for refers to fixing issues in general, like adding safety features to an old building

Anything they feel they should work for,any rights you know, something which they've been deprived of,take for instance admission blockage in colleges, lack of employment sources available to the youth contingent.

By "students" I will assume you are referring to high school through college age people.

Hunger strikes can damage the body severely over long periods of time. Also today people can be incredibly ignorant since hunger strikes do not affect them directly, nor has a negative impact. Rather well constructed essays or debates are a better way to go.
