Suicide, is it Selfish?
WARNING: I am sorry if this is a sensitive topic to anyone, and or triggers anyone. That is not my intention.
Some believe that suicide is selfish, because you are putting yourself before others, and not thinking of the impact on them.
Others believe it is not, because they shouldn't have to consider everyone around them in order to relieve themselves from whatever they go through.

It can be selfish. If you have loved one's (especially one's that would feel extremely depressed to see you go) then yes, you are being selfish. Your not thinking of the consequences at all. Those loved one's of yours will go into extreme sadness and probably depression and may even resort to self harm or suicide themselves. Side: Suicide is Selfish

Suicide is selfish - it is NEVER a solution, period. Life can suck, a lot, but its a horribly permanent solution to a problem that will go away with time. You would be doing harm to you, your family, your friends, and anyone and everyone who cares about you. Never commit suicide. Side: Suicide is Selfish
Suicide is very selfish, perhaps one of the most egocentric thing someone could do. Why? Because there are people all around them that love them and want what's best for them. They may not even know what the victim is going through. For someone to commit suicide, it is taking yourself first, because you can't cope with what is going on around you, you remove yourself. A permanent answer to a temporary problem, many say. And don't think twice about the poor souls left behind to mourn for your death and never be the same. Side: Suicide is Selfish

Well, yeah, it still is, you have just made it so that no one gets hurt. You are still getting rid of your pain. It just isn't as bad. Plus, your scenario is a problem because of the terminal illness part. You have turned a permanent solution for a temporary problem into a permanent solution for a permanent problem. Suicide is very selfish, perhaps one of the most egocentric thing someone could do. It is one of the most personal decisions one can make, but that is not synonymous with egocentrism. It ultimately depends on why they are doing it. Many feel they are not worthy of being in this world, and that is hardly egocentric, if anything, its the opposite. Because there are people all around them that love them and want what's best for them. This is not always true. And if you truly want what's best for them, maybe you should consider that suicide would really be that. Some people may experience their hopelessness indefinitely. They may genuinely have no interest in living anymore. If this is the case, is it not SELFISH to want them to stay alive, to suffer indefinitely and not exercise their ultimate freedom of choice just so YOU don't have to deal with pain of them dying. I'm sorry, but in those cases, THAT is the selfish attitude. Besides, EVERYONE you know will die at some point anyway. Whether it is by their own hand or not doesn't make much practical difference. A permanent answer to a temporary problem, And if the problem is not temporary? Side: Suicide is not Selfish

It would be wrong, and perhaps conceited to make a judgment on those who take such a drastic step whilst we sit smugly in our computer room in a rational and sane frame of mind. People who commit suicide will have usually been in a state of deep clinical depression for a significant period of time and will have long since lost their reason and ability to think logically. A black hood comes over them, metaphorically speaking, and when they take this drastic decision most everything else is blanked out. Maybe the judgmental and sanctimonious among us will consider suicidal people to be weak and unable to endure the pains and harsh experiences which life throws at everyone. Super sensitive and highly emotional people can feel hurt much deeper and are traumatized by events which others can cast off more easily. Help and understanding is what is required, not criticism. It isn't unless you've got children in my opinion. Depression is like the constant pain of a tooth ache, going on and on, continuously driving you crazy but the pain is in your mind. There are some people who just don't get better with medication and therapy. Those people cannot be blamed for wanting to end it. Side: Suicide is not Selfish

In my opinion mental illness should be treated just the same as any physical illness. However, it is not. Many people who believe in euthanasia are against suicide. Why? Mental illness can not always be curable. Would you prefer for someone to suffer unimaginable pain for the rest of their lives and still be expected to pretend everything is alright? I think it is more selfish to keep someone alive and in pain just because you want them than it is to choose what feels right for you. And some people kill themselves because they think no one loves them, they are just a burden on society, and getting themselves out of the way is better for everyone. Even though this isn't true, the person is trying to be the opposite of selfish. I'm sorry to all the people that probably offended :) Side: Suicide is not Selfish

the people who died in suicide , and who accept suicide were/are the people with pure heart , they don't have any dishonest attitude in them. Mostly they are good people .In one case they sacrifice their life so that some of the evil things are eradicated/ carried with them. Side: Suicide is not Selfish

Suicide is definitely not selfish, because most of the time people kill themselves because they don't get love and attention. Why you should give people love if they don't give you, plus, if they don't love you, you have the right or refusing to be by their side anymore. I wouldn't call suicide selfish, but a stupid solution to every problem Side: Suicide is not Selfish

It all depends on WHY they commit suicide! Where diagnosed with terminal cancer and were afraid of suffering? Were they suffering from unbearable depression (like my brother)? This world really sucks and that is not the individual’s fault. But, if they leave children behind- then that IS pretty selfish! I know how bad the world is, and I didn’t bring anyone else into this shit hole. Side: Suicide is not Selfish
