Teachers should be allowed to strike

Teachers' strikes are a big issue in many countries

Teachers have just as much a right to protest unfair or arbitrary punishment or rules as the rest of us. Everyone's allowed to speak their voice.

Unfair punishment and rules? Can you give me an example? It's really about pay. The work in a school, for crying out loud. It's not like the administration is going to whip a teacher with kids around or anything! Nor are the going to provide an unsafe working envirement, as parents would be suing left and right. Unions were originally started for these reasons; not to wine and say "I'm only being payed 80k a year! Help me!"

Read my arguement and comment on it. At first glance, it does seem like teachers should have the right. But it is a little more complex than that.

Are you a manager in some school, by any chance ?

Yes, but the school should be able to do everything in its power to stop unions from forming and having power. Unions, especially teachers unions, only get in the way of good management by protecting lazy workers, and creating a work environment without incentives.

Exactly my reasoning. I'd be okay with the teacher unions if the school district had a specific person whoose job was solely to fight them. Maybe they'd be paid on commission, based on the amount of money they save on wadges? A little incentive.

In a setting where the school will fight hard to get the best deal possible with the teachers union, yes. But 99% of the time that is not the case. Look at the Seattle school district. Earlier this year, the teachers union decided to strike. Now the senior class might not graduate. I would be abosolutely furious if I was one of those kids. Also, may I add, the northwest Washington teachers are actually already some of the highest paid in the nation.

Honestly, each and every single American family owes more than $100,000 (our public debt). Teachers know going into their job that they won't be making a fotune. But, I actually did the math, and if they worked as much as my father (he's a database developer and makes six figuires) the average Seattle teacher would be making over $83,000.00 a year. That's plenty to live a good life off of.

Teacher unions and strikes should be illegal because it gives the teachers way too much power. We NEED teachers. If every teacher in the US quit and decided to become cashiers at McDonalds we'd be in a real pickle. If, however, all the current cashiers at McDonalds quit and became teachers, mainly only the upper class would suffer because the mid and low level employees could instead get jobs at another fast food joint. This is because there is fair compitition. With public services, it's more of a monopoly.

I propose that we pass a federal law that requires the disbanning of all public labor unions. However, it will also re-affirm that the government will do everything in it's power to provide decent working conditions. If there is really a problem, the teachers or whoever (obviousley) have the full right to sue.
