In my point on view we can do something also when we watch tv. like an example we can wash plates and getting information from TV at the same time. as here was written before it depend on person

TV is much better than BOOKS ! In my opinion, TV can give knowledge in many ways, and it's not so difficult and save time ! Also, it's much more interesting to watch Discovery Channel than read the Biology book or listen to teacher. Moreover, the National Geographic is the best channel that teaches geography ! Also there are programs like Dora the explorer than teaches little children !

in addition, i agree with the gay who has written that TV can watch a children. they develop them self without any problem, and parents dont worry about it. so, anyway TV is better than books, but, only in case when parents control it. there are such cases when people just waste time.

Television can effectively control a population in many ways or simply just provide a distraction from the important matters in the world that the masses shouldn't be concerned with.

Books on the other hand give the masses too much knowledge and leads to people asking too many questions concerning the way things are ran in the world.

It brings me peace of mind to know that the masses are in their homes where they belong, glazed over and staring at that lovely blue glow.

"just provide a distraction from the important matters in the world that the masses shouldn't be concerned with."

Why should the masses not be concerned with these matters?

"It brings me peace of mind to know that the masses are in their homes where they belong, glazed over and staring at that lovely blue glow."

Why does it bring you peace of mind? What exactly is so special about you?

Why should the masses not be concerned with these matters?

Best to just leave the important decisions to the pros.

Why does it bring you peace of mind? What exactly is so special about you?

Because they would just get in the way or start trouble. And I'm not special, I'm just aware of my place in the proletariat.

Depends on the book, and the show. I would much prefer to watch, for example, a nice Danish utvecklingsfilm over reading some dumb book like Harry Potter or Goosebumps or whatever the latest fad is now. However, there are some books - surprisingly not many, for somebody who reads as much as I read - which I would prefer to read rather than watch a good TV show or movie; the works of Albertus Magnus or Manly Hall, for instance.

Hellz yeah it is. Look at this in todays point of view. Everything we do is based off of speed. Fast Food, Fast transportation, Fast entertainment (redbox is one of these), and even Fast sex. Basically all movies are is a fast easier copy of the book in a more entertaining fashion. So what if the actors were crap but you still got the jist of the thing you were watching. Learning from tv is just as well if not better than learning from a book.

I disagree with you. Certainly, watching television takes less time than reading books. However, it depends on the person and book. If a book is really fascinating and the person who reads this book is good reader. It is better to read a book in one day and improve your mind and etc. than to spend two hours to watching the film.

I think that it is impossible to give all the feelings of the book through the film. Since film is also kind of business. People try to earn a big amount of money on it. In this way, they may do everything to achieve this purpose and even change the content of the book, take into account not all important aspects and add some new things. I think that it is very seldom, when the film is able to be similar to the book.

Watching television is just emotional development, reading books is spiritual development. We should think over what is more profitable and useful for us?

Books are more advantageous than watching TV. According to Sarah Ockler, there are many benefits of reading books. For example, books are companions in traveling, books do not cause cultural disorders, books open new world for us, enrich our imagination, thoughts, ideas. As she said "book is the soul of humanity in the written form". I totally agree with her.

To conclude, I want to say that books are definitely better than watching TV.

television is very useful so as for entertainment , knowledge about world , science , new emerging technology , reality shows as well as programs & many more. We find 80 % people in the world that watch TV for refreshment and entertainment. We can't just keep on studying for all the time but for some refreshment we often watch TV . Its also plays an important role in people's life in case of informing about any of events , disasters or many more.

Side: FOR

Television is better than most books because you can surf all the channels and find exactly what interests you.

Side: FOR

I totally agree with this opinion because watching TV can be a great way to relax and unwind after a long day and it can expose you to different perspectives and cultures, especially if you watch documentaries or travel contexto shows while reading books may require a high level of concentration, which can be difficult for some people, especially me.

I suppose that book is better than TV because even when movies are created they are not able to carry to us all their feelings and emotions. Reading book you are able to deep in the interesting world and imagine all situations as you want it!!!!

book is better than television,as i cant say television is full of knowledge ....as books have knowledge library...which can help u in ur professional life,as tv no they are jus for entertainment...

Side: AGAINST

I disagree that TV better than books because watching TV gives nothing, reading books gives knowledge. When you read books you can feel and imagine all details and it memorizes for a long time. When you reading you think slowly to understand, it help to memorizE, but when watching you cannot control TV and you do not have time to think and understand. That's why I prefer books. I believe that books better than TV

It depens on person because some people takes information faster than others. Also by TV you can get inforamtion faster than to reading

Side: FOR

It really depends on what areas you are saying television is better than books. Books allow for one to build the imagination and increase the vocabulary. Television allows for faster communication of the weather and news but also events are covered through television like sports and elections. Granted eventually the events would eventually be put in a book, the time it takes would slow down the technological advancement and social commutes. That and we would be caught in the rain. Now if your talking education. Books are better. Television allows for the imagination to wonder its own path. Books control that path because the brain isn't actually using the imagination while reading but translating the words into visuals used to imagine the books plot.

i not agree that Television is better than books, because when you search information from book, during your research you c all the gratest scientist used book but not television

Side: AGAINST

i am not agree that Television is better than books, because children in order to get useful information thay also can get negative one, but books never teach poor.

Side: AGAINST

The Books are better than other things. From many many years people are used to read and only books teach them to become literate person and despite of the developing modern technology devices the selling of the books are never giving up. Vise versa bestsellers have never stop marketing and publishing because they have their readers. People nowadays should tend to be well-read in order to sit facing to the television during whole day from the affect of being obsessed with tv and receive unneceessary informations like advertisement "how to be a rich person? how to lose weights? how to learn languages from a few seconds? and so on., different channels propogand their ideas how to get money by attracting people from their unsuitable, informal programms. I'm not critisizing all channels somehow we have good channels and receive useful information but not from all of them. the books have a bit the same functions but books give oppurtunity to right to choose for people what to feel, how to manupulate the feelings during reading period. Nevertheless books are the first sources from where all information brings.

Side: AGAINST
1 point

Of course I am against! First of all television and Internet are devices which make people degraded. I cannot find from television some sort of information which can be useful for me, or teach me something valuable and significant. All programs, reality shows, advertisement have only one target - to grab the attention of watchers and entertain them. We all know that we can never improve ourselves with entertainment. Entertainment is just the tool of being happy and joyful, or cheering up. You cannot also see lots of remarkable films on TV, rarely only. What about books? It is controversially the tool of improvement and progression. You read; you learn the moral of the book; you learn good things about characters; you try not to repeat their mistakes; in addition, you raise your language level and vocabulary, improve your writing; you will be saturated with moral, mercy and intelligence. Is it bad for you?

Entertainment isn't just about being entertained either you can also learn valuable life lessons and morals too. Soooooooo Suck it :3

So dlin99’s grammar is wrong ergo his/her argument is wrong?

You want to argue a person’s grammar instead of their position and then talk about failed arguments?

And oh btw… why not check your own grammar before you seek to correct someone else’s. Lead by example, practice what you preach, remove the beam of wood from your own eye so that you may see clearly to point out the sawdust in another’s eye.

books is way better than television. all television does is rot peoples minds while books help the brain

Side: AGAINST

Books develop your imagination and vocabulary. Person, who reads a lot of books, is conversationalist. I think television is entertainment for 2-3 hours, because you get radiation and spoil your vision.

Side: AGAINST
1 point

According to my experience when you are reading books your imagination is better than the most popular film. moreover when you are reading book your critical thinking is improving. also you will know new philosophical expressions that you will use in speech. People who read a lot have a great opportunity to be a good speaker, good speakers have great opportunity to be leader.

Side: AGAINST
1 point

I think the book is better. And the film - it's just a vision of the book by one person, the director. And often this vision may not coincide with your own. Hence the criticism of the film, a misunderstanding. Reading the book, open space fantasy for you. You are free to choose what you see certain characters.

Side: AGAINST
1 point

Books are better than television. Although books are obviously more valuable for educational such as expanding your vocabulary or improving your reading abilities, books also are just a better form of storytelling overall. Unlike television, books tend to leave more room for the imagination. Books give you the option to come up with your own image as to what characters and settings are like, which helps you get more attached to the characters and storyline.

Side: AGAINST
1 point

Absolutely not. Books are way better than television A. It helps with English/literature and B. They're fun to read there's nothing like reading a book and getting lost in the wonder of the story.

Side: AGAINST
1 point

My thought on this is that books make you use your imagination in a way that TV doesn't.

TV has all the visuals pre-made and fed to you; with books you are visualizing the scenes.

I enjoy TV and books, deep and shallow examples of each. I just think that the medium of the written word takes more effort to engage with.

While viewing television has the exact opposite effect on our mental health, reading has a beneficial impact. Stress, blood pressure, pulse rate, and muscle tension can all be reduced by reading. Reading not only increases our knowledge but also has a positive impact on our mental health.
