Terrorists are responsible for water boarding!
If terrorists did not go around committing acts of terrorism, then there wouldn't be any reason to water board them. Also, if they would just cooperate when captured, then there wouldn't be any need to water board them. They are in control of their water boarding. They just don't chose to take the necessary steps that will prevent them from getting water boarded. It's all their fault.
Water boarding is not torture. College students water board each other all over the world....., except they use beer instead
Water Boarding has been used three times. All on high value detainees. These are people who were leaders of Terrorist cells and what not. If they didn't kill so many innocent people, they wouldn't have been water boarded.
(1) “torture” means an act committed by a person acting under the color of law specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering (other than pain or suffering incidental to lawful sanctions) upon another person within his custody or physical control;
(2) “severe mental pain or suffering” means the prolonged mental harm caused by or resulting from—
(A) the intentional infliction or threatened infliction of severe physical pain or suffering;
(B) the administration or application, or threatened administration or application, of mind-altering substances or other procedures calculated to disrupt profoundly the senses or the personality;
(C) the threat of imminent death; or
(D) the threat that another person will imminently be subjected to death, severe physical pain or suffering, or the administration or application of mind-altering substances or other procedures calculated to disrupt profoundly the senses or personality; and ...
also, according to US law, torture is illegal
water-boarding is under the category of torture
thus, water-boarding is illegal
side note --- at the end Worldf World War II, the US government prosecuted the Japanes for water-boarding US prisoners
That was before the enlightened era where water-boarding is now considered to be OK. Water-boarding is uncomfortable, that's all. Now, if it was torture, then how does the military get away with water-boarding our own troops in order to train them, huh? Answer me that ;)
when military personnel are undergoing the SEARS training, they know that they will undergo limited water boarding exercises that is limited and non life threatening
this is totally different from those held by the US military who know that they will be subjected to many forms of torture (including water boarding) and can even be killed
yes - KILLED !!!
the US government has document the deaths of many held in US prisons and indicated that many could be labeled as homicides !!!
in comparison to other methods of interrogating suspects and gathering actionable information, we know for a historical fact that it, water-boarding, does NOT work
more importantly the evidence shows that water-boarding produces inaccurate information
But surely the experts would have learned by now, after years of trial and error, which information is accurate and which is not. I mean, we have made some great technological advancement in bottled water for instance. They didn't have that way back then. Maybe the use of Avian water (instead of tap water or even toilet water for that matter) yields positive results. I'm just saying, you have to keep an open mind ;)
Actually I hope that opposition forces in Afghanistan water-board every US soldier they capture. That is better than cutting their heads off with a rusty knife.
Water boarding is essential. It's nice that they finally released the report that showed how many lives and possible attacks would have been if it wasn't for water boarding. They still leave with life, and limbs unlike ours who lose their heads. Now we have a communist, racist attorney general Eric Holder who wants us to apologize for water boarding these people. What is our Nation coming to?
Yep, and if the neighborhood gasoline station had no money in the register a robber couldn't go in, point a gun and rob them of their profits...how dare they make money for you to rob!
Torture: causing severe physical and/or mental anguish.
Simulated drowning-- causes severe physical and/or mental anguish.
Bent Sørensen, Senior Medical Consultant to the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims and former member of the United Nations Committee Against Torture has said:
It's a clear-cut case: Waterboarding can without any reservation be labeled as torture. It fulfils all of the four central criteria that according to the United Nations Convention Against Torture (UNCAT) defines an act of torture. First, when water is forced into your lungs in this fashion, in addition to the pain you are likely to experience an immediate and extreme fear of death. You may even suffer a heart attack from the stress or damage to the lungs and brain from inhalation of water and oxygen deprivation. In other words there is no doubt that waterboarding causes severe physical and/or mental suffering – one central element in the UNCAT's definition of torture. In addition the CIA's waterboarding clearly fulfills the three additional definition criteria stated in the Convention for a deed to be labeled torture, since it is 1) done intentionally, 2) for a specific purpose and 3) by a representative of a state – in this case the US.[8]
Yeah but it's really simple. If you are not a terrorist, you will not be water boarded. How hard is that to comprehend? You are in control of your future.
"All nations that are signatory to the United Nations Convention Against Torture have agreed they are subject to the explicit prohibition on torture under any condition. This was affirmed by Saadi v. Italy in which the European Court of Human Rights, on February 28, 2008, upheld the absolute nature of the torture ban by ruling that international law permits no exceptions to it.[157][158] The treaty states 'No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture'."
Interesting, because others (such as the CIA and US Navy SEALS) do not define it as torture. In fact, it is part of regular training for the SEALS.
Water boarding is safe and done only in extreme circumstances. It is done by experts in a way that can not cause any ACTUAL physical harm. The demonstrations done by idiots (ManCow) were done improperly and most likely by an amateur (it was done completely wrong).
In all actuality, they are NOT breathing in water and only think they are. The main problem is that people who believe it's torture is only because it causes any "pain". Severe? Not at all. What the TERRORISTS do to our troops is actual torture. Water boarding is a joke in their country.
Either way, I'm willing to exchange the comfort of a couple of major terrorists for the lives of hundreds of thousands of American citizens and soldiers...
