That smokers should be denied access to Medicare

Yes, they should

Side Score: 5

No, they shouldn't

Side Score: 10

Medicare is a form of socialism, smokers have every right to smoke, but the right to free health care is truly absurd. What next? Free health care for those who eat at McDonald's three times a day.

To those liberals, spare me the definition of socialism.

Not only is Medicare a form of redistribution of wealth, but it is government owned health insurance.

Smokers waste a lot of money on cigarettes. They spend enough to afford private health Cover. Why should the state pay for their problems

answering your question,

doesn't government give Medicare to those who are 'addicted' to drugs, or are 'addicted' to eating large sums of food; smoking is an addiction also and those who are 'addicted' to smoking should be allowed the same Equal right as others.

free drugs are for the needy that is someone who cannot afford, but someone who can buy a pack of cigarette is not a needy,so i think their should provide drugs for theirself just as their provide daily cigarette for theirself

free drugs is hazard upon their life's,why because someone who can not control his self over smoking after all he knows that is dangerous on him can at the same time over use the drugs.

Yeah, it would be a good way of discouraging people from smoking.

But these days people's health, their children's health isn't enough of a reason for them to quit smoking. They want money instead. It IS a fucked up country.

the government collects huge taxes for the sale of every pack of cigarettes, the tobacco industry provides the government money for Medicare. as of this the people buying these cigarettes should be allowed the Medicare they are paying for.

p.s. this is not a suitable site to swear on ;)

I would say that yes, smokers should be denied, but for one thing. Nicotine addiction is still an addiction. If you're going to deny them, you should have to offer them some help first. Also, if they're going to be denied, they shouldn't have to pay in.

Side: No, they shouldn't

If we took Medicare from smokers, we might as well take it from anybody whose activities might elevate their risk of illness or affliction. This would have to include those with poor diets, those who have strenuous exercise routines, anybody who's family has a history of morbidity, people with arthritis, people who drive cars...What part of universal healthcare do you not understand?

yeah it sucks i know but we have to deal with human burdens. We are a burden to oursleves and to the earth we stand on. But we still must take care of eachother. We are all in the end sinners. Remeber it sayed in the bible when this women committed adultery and the whole town chased her down to kill her. And what did jesus do? He defended her saying if you have not sinned then be the first to throw rocks at her. And what did they do? Walked away. I need to catch up on my bible reading so i can quote directly. :( But you get the point. We are all on the same boat. The question is wether you want to be rescued from the boat before a huge tital wave comes in.

in the 1900's the tobacco was a huge issue, which most people did no know affected them. what about those people nowdays who did not know the affects and causes of this? it was the governments responsibility to make the public aware. so, the government should support those who were affected. i propose the idea that people over 60 should all be open to Medicare smokers or not. the younger generation of today how ever, have been peer pressured leading to addiction. it is the governments responsibility to make sure schools, parents, stores etc. are monitoring sales and who it is sold to, as well as the peer pressure and addiction aspect.

No. Addiction to tobacco is a clinical condition that needs to be recognised, and if it is to be treated and cured, then medical help and advice is often required.

Side: No, they shouldn't

It would be going too far to deny smokers Medicare. All people should have access to Medicare regardless if one is a smoker.
