The Bible was the foundation for communism

I'm not that well-read on this subject, but I don't believe Marx, nor any of the general marxist or communist thinkers ever had the bible or any kind of religion or religious text as the backdrop.

Furthermore, Marx' starting point was dialectic materialism (inspired by Hegelian dialectic).

You're right about Marx. He called religion "the opiate of the masses" because he said it distracted people from how crapy their lives were. So I'm pretty sure that the idea of communism did not come from the bible.

During this election I noticed a lot of people mostly religious ones talking about how bad communism/socialism is. When you really look at the bible it really inspired what would later become communism.

“All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need” (Acts 2:44-45).

For one, the idea "each to his need" was not something that popped out of nowhere; although I can't substantiate it further, I think there's something inherently human about such an idea.

Secondly, there is no empirical connection between the phrase from the bible and marxist/communist philosophy. Even the logical connection you propose is quite weak, as (with the above paragraph in mind) the idea of "each to his need" probably can be derived from other sources than the bible.

Good points, essentially almost any political ideology could find justification for their beliefs within the Bible. It should be remembered that the Bible is a religious text and perhaps the most telling quote from the Bible is:

"Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God"

- Luke 20:25

This is of course the Christian source for the concept of separation of Church and State.

As for "each to his need" the idea probably originated long before recorded history when man was struggling to survive and banded together into tribes in order to ensure mutual survival.

That is stating the basic human values we must conduct.

During the election you noticed much more talk about Socialism because many people, and not only those with religious beliefs, thought Barack Obama leaned toward that philosophy.

The thought of sharing with your brother runs throughout the New Testament and probably many other writings as well. The Acts of The Apostles explains the period after Jesus was crucified and how his disciples brought people into the fold of Christianity by following the Teachers lessons. You cannot take a snippet from the entire book of Acts and call it the basis for communism because certain people divested themselves of that which would encumber them and hardly be required for their own journey into the faith. Even today we give to our brothers and sisters that which we do not need because we see theirs.

I wouldn't necessarily say that it was the foundation.

The way I see it is:

Bible says people should share wealth, help their fellow man, and so on because it is whats right. Out of the good of your own heart so to speak.

Communism is more of a force people to share wealth help their fellow man, and so on because its whats right.

I always wondered why Marx didn't support organized Christianity because of how it tends to over lap with Communism.

Impossible.

Communism was thought of way before the Bible --> link

And the Bible

Of course that's just the New Testament, the Old Testament was copied off the Egyptian Book of the Dead something like 1400B.C. (It was compiled, who knows from where and by whom... or I mean by god) At any rate, there's not a lot of socialism in the Old Testament is there? I think you're talking about the New one, the one after god changes his mind right?
