The Death of Baroness Thatcher...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-22067155

Today, on the 8th of April 2013, Baroness Margaret Thatcher died peacefully, she was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom for 11 years and the first Prime Minister to be a female, during her administration there were several global events such as the Falklands War and the transfer of Hong Kong.

To make this more of a debate and less of a random post, the question posed is do you think she was a good person/prime minister? Was her actions in the Falklands War bad? Or her stance on the trade unions?

Overall, I hope that everyone discusses her passing with the respect it deserves.

While I do not have an extensive knowledge of all that the Baroness accomplished, just the mere fact that she was the first female Prime Minister is a great achievement. As far as the question of her actions, I would say that yes her actions made her a good prime minister. You can't second guess the actions taken by a leader. You can second guess their motives. I would have never questioned the motives of the former Baroness Thatcher unlike how I question the motives of the current President of the United States.

RIP Baroness Thatcher

I might not have liked the Iron Lady; but she commanded respect for sure. While I'm a supporter of the Trade Union movement; there's no denying that the Unions went too far back in her day and she did what had to be done to get the UK economy back on track. She had only Britain's best interests in mind at all times.

Maggie Thatcher vs. Batman....Thatcher WIN!

I was trying to think of a way to sum up my views and you pretty much hit the nail on the head, I didn't like her but she commanded respect, I protested against some of her policies and applauded her on others she sorted the country when it needed sorting.

She was the best Prime Minister the UK has had that I remember a lot better than Tony Blair or that shower of shite in power at the moment.

I never had any experience of her. I'm from Australia and I live in Malaysia. I only saw her on TV back in Australia and recently watched the movie about her.

I find the Iron Lady views on the Baroness to be quite insensitive, it mentioned little of some of her greatest achievements and instead focused on the fact that she has alzheimers.

As a person, I do not think she was too bad. However, her policies caused pain to many. She (along with Ronald Regan and Brian Mulroney) brought about a wave of neo-liberalism. This neo-liberalism had disastrous implications for human rights, and the economic health of the major powers. The financial crisis of 2008 can be traced back to this. Furthermore, the policies of Thatcher and Regan were responsible for the IMF. This has caused the stalled development of South America and Africa. Lastly, Thatcher and Regan engaged in many wars of aggression which ultimately were bad for everyone. (Not talking about the Falklands in this case though.)
