The Greeks' God-Concept Was Closest To Reality:
Even the Judeo/Christian concept of God includes phrases in Genesis such as "let Us make man in Our image, and in Our likeness".
This implies: 1) God is a committee ("US" translates more than one entity) rather than an individual,
2) "They" have bodies such as we humans have, remember, it says in Genesis: "let US make man in Our IMAGE and in Our LIKENESS").
Your likeness is a photograph or sculpture of your form/appearance.
It might be that since God made us male and female and is Us and Our, that God is man and woman.
Ok... I think Christianity is ridiculous but this argument is just being overly literal to a nonsensical degree. Likeness is not restricted to physical appearance, and if the use of "we" always meant multiple people then the Queen of England has multiple personality disorder. Neither the Greek nor the Christian god concepts are "closest to reality", they're both damn silly. |
