The Health of the Candidates

The release of tax returns has been a pressing request for both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump and as presidential candidates I agree that it is good for American voters to see how the future leader of the country handles their finances. Nevertheless, there may be something arguably more paramount and more in the country’s interest than financial management  - and that is physical wellbeing.

It is no small feat taking up the onerous demands of the presidential role, and it does not come without stress, particularly in these turbulent times. Ideally, the public ought to have confidence in their president’s ability to lead the country unaccompanied by disquiet regarding their constitution. So, along the vein of releasing their tax returns, (and following apparent questions of Clinton's own health namely), do you suppose that both candidates should also be required to release their medical records officially in order to quash rumours and determine their fitness for office, especially given their ages?

I think it's very important. I want to know their mental and physical fitness from a medical standpoint. As far as character, integrity etc., that'll have to be up to the voters to decide.

Are you suggesting medical testing that would be more than a standard checkup and possibly not currently in their medical records?

No, a standard exam would do. I would like to see what they have currently in their medical history.

Yes, I do agree that the fitness level of our potential Presidential Candidates--both physical and mental--it is very important to me. In fact, if a candidate I otherwise really like is not physically fit and endangered of not being able yo perform optimally while in office--or even dying!--it is a deal breaker for me. I won't vote for him.

This actually was the case for me with John McCain, when he ran back in 2008. And the fact that he then chose that nitwit Sarah Palin as his running mate REALLY busted the deal for me. No way was I gonna risk the chance of an out-of-shape 70 year-old man with a heart history having a heart attack, and thus putting our country in the hands of an idiot who cannot even count to 10 or control her own kids. LOL.

And I have to admit: the ONE thing I DID like about Obama, was his youth and vigor and his physical prowess. It is good to have a leader like that. And nowadays in this media-driven society it's especially important for a nation to have confidence in their leaders' fitness level and health.

Another example: I don't know how old yo are or how much history you know, but FDR, who was our only 4-term president and considered by many to be our greatest ever, had polio and was wheelchair bound.

And his Administration actually managed to HIDE this fact from the American People! Those "fire side chats" he did, well, the viewers had no clue he was sitting down in a chair with a blanket over his legs because he HAD to, to hide them.

The very thought of a POTUS today being able to hide such a significant health problem is, of course, absurd. It could never ever happen. Way way too much media scrutiny. Hell, we even know when out President has a case of hemorrhoids!

And this I say too: despite how much the People love him, or how good he is or how fine a speaker, or if he is the biggest war hero in the history of our country, and loved, say, 10 times more than JFK or FDR, if he is in a wheelchair, or even walks with crutches or a walker....well there is absolutely NO WAY he gets elected. Period. Not in today's world, amigo.

It's important if they're in an iron lung or can't be more than 10 feet away from a bathroom at all times. It's important if they've been diagnosed with terminal cancer and have a prognosis of 1 year to live. It's important if they are already clinically insane.

Neither Clinton nor Trump meet a threshold to get the boot over health. The latest smear campaign against Clinton is just that - a smear campaign.

There are so many health issues that can appear in the course of 4 years that it wouldn't matter what their current medical records state.

Not even if there are signs beforehand that seem a little suspect?
