The last several years have seen a great deal of debate over Obama - his ethnicity, place of birth, religion, even his name - however, the second somebody screams "racist", everybody seems to stop.
However, is it even remotely possible, that Obama is the racist?
Obama's minister, the ultra-prejudiced Jeremiah Wright has made his beliefs regarding Black Power all-to-clear. Reverend Wright's mentor, James Cone, also made what one could call "violently racist" speeches and writings, such as that listed in the following excerpt:
"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community … Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."
“I found solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.”
Skip ahead to the "Henry Louis Gates arrest controversy", regarding which Obama stated that the Cambridge Police "acted stupidly" in arresting the black Prof. Gates. Sgt. Crowley, the arresting officer, who also teaches a couse on racial profiling, maintained that he "acted appropriately."
So, where is Obama's racism in all of that? The part where Obama announced that the Cambridge police [officer] "acted stupidly". What is so racist about that? Obama immediately assumed that, without even having any proof or complete knowledge of the situation, the white officer acted "stupidly" in arresting black Gates.
It may now be time to define "racism". There are many who would have you believe that only a white person can be racist (!!!), however, lexicographically, that is a blatant lie. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, racism is defined as "the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race , especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races"
Now, onto another case:
The New Black Panthers, a black-supremicist organization, have announced that black peope will have to kill "crackers and their babies" to gain liberation. Samir Shabazz, the very man who made those hate speeches, was arrested for voter intimidation by carrying a billy club and threatening white people as they attempted to vote. However, immediately before the resolution of the trial, the case was dropped.
Obama did not say that the police acted racially or that all white cops do stupid things or anything racist. He said that the "Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home"
The New Black Panthers
- The Bush administration's Justice Department -- not the Obama administration -- made the decision not to pursue criminal charges. It then became a civil case and Obama/Holder DOJ obtained an injunction against Samir Shabazz through the 2012 election.
- The Bush administration chose not to pursue similar charges
- No voters have come forward to claim that they were intimidated
Seeing your first post, I thought that you were at least attempting to be serious. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case.
He admits to being racist -
only in your head and in your fake book quote
So you claim
well, me, and the links I provided
"No such sentence (nor anything close to it) appears anywhere in either Dreams from My Father or The Audacity of Hope. This statement was taken from a March 2007 article about Barack Obama"
yourproof: a link to the wikipedia article for the book which does not substantiate your claim.
Sgt. Crowley could not ascertain Prof. Gates' identity
maybe you should read your own link:
"I asked Gates to provide me with photo identification so that I could verify that he resided at XX Ware Street and so that I could radio my findings to ECC. Gates initially refused, demanding that I show him identification but then did supply me with a Harvard University identification card."
the Bush administration pursued charges, whereas the Obama administration dropped charges
"After reviewing the matter, the Civil Rights Division determined that the facts did not constitute a prosecutable violation of the criminal statutes. The Department did, however, file a civil action on January 7th, 2009"
"no citizen has even alleged that he or she was intimidated from voting at the Fairmount Avenue Polling Station in 2008. This absence of voter intimidation was clear to the Justice Department last spring, which is why they took the course of action that they did."
A University of Pennsylvania student filmed it from a cell phone camera
The Bush administration chose not to pursue similar charges (which you did not address)
"[I]n Pima, Arizona in the 2006 election... three well-known anti-immigrant advocates affiliated with the Minutemen, one of whom was carrying a gun, allegedly intimidated Latino voters at a polling place by approaching several persons, filming them, and advocating and printing voting materials in Spanish. In that instance, the Department declined to bring any action for alleged voter intimidation, notwithstanding the requests of the complaining parties."
why do you give people crap for not including references when you clearly aren't willing to examine them when they are presented? (or your own for that matter)
Oh Dear God Yes. I mean look at this how many Black supremacy groups do blacks have. NAACP,Black Panthers. None of which have ever been targeted as any White supremacy group. A white man or men question the GREAT ONE he himself goes out
of his way to slander and destroy him. Obama is a one trick pony. OK he is black khaki or something besides white that got him there how big of idiots are we gonna be to re elect him
if you already know of the fake "ethnicity, place of birth, religion, even his name" nontraversies - why didn't you approach this (and future) stories with at least some degree of skepticism?
the guy can prove his citizenship more than nearly every birther out there.
- Birth Certificate
- Driver's license
- passport
- credentialed by the Illinois and US Senate
- political enemies in position to know (the Republican Governor and the Republican Director of Department of Health in Hawaii who both supported McCain) say Obama's long form is on file
- the candidates he ran against with many investigators both agree he was born in Hawaii and the Hillary camp even found 2 newspaper articles published in Hawaii newspapers announcing his birth within 10 days of it happening
And the evidence for the other side -
- they said the birth certificate wasn't public when it was
- said it was forged til it was authenticated
- produced a birth certificate that easily shown to be forged
- cut off the youtube video of a phone call to Obama's step grandmother to make it seem like she didn't say he was born in Hawaii when she did
and once all those don't pan out, they just keep trying
they start with what they want to be true, and then try to make evidence
My opinion is that the birther rumor was started to divert attention from the court challenge to McCain's eligibility to be President because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone.
Either way, it is typically made by the same people that were discussing changing the Constitution so Arnold could run for President, and people who never challenged Barry Goldwater's citizenship when he was born in Arizona before it was a state, etc.
1. There has been no debate on any of these things. It's racist and predictable reactionism stemming from a PR campaign based on nothing but the color of Obama's skin. Do you not ask yourself why the first black president is also the first president to be accused of all these things? It is because he is black. It is racists projecting their own racism. Nothing more.
2. James Cone has 0 to do with Obama. And it is well documented Obama did not go to this church often, and never saw any of Wright's hate speaches. It is not as if he were covering this subject every sunday and Obama has been clear about his opposition to the speach in question.
3. An honest analyses of racial relations at a young age is far more likely to produce one free of the disease, which Obama is, than one who denies it, like the jokers of Fox and yourself, who are quite racially divisive.
4. The cop did act stupidly. It is stupid for a cop to arrest someone for tresspassing on their own property after seeing proof they are on their own property. That cop acted stupidly.
5. Your explanation of who can be racist has nothing to do with anything. Of course anyone can be racist. The point is Obama has done nothing that would lead anyone with an ounce of logic to believe he is.
5. The "new black panthers" were two, count them, two crazy people. And that silly tape showed white people walking back and forth with no trouble whatsoever. Plus, the Bush admin decided not to prosecute first, then a right wing attorney general tried to get the case tried again by the Obama admin. It was blatant race bating. Why aren't you accusing the Bush admin of being racist?
So, where is Obama's racism in all of that? The part where Obama announced that the Cambridge police [officer] "acted stupidly". What is so racist about that? Obama immediately assumed that, without even having any proof or complete knowledge of the situation, the white officer acted "stupidly" in arresting black Gates.
I must be racist then, because I hate stupid people...
Ah... so Obama was caught making phone calls to get his black brother's case dropped... right?
"No such sentence (nor anything close to it) appears anywhere in either Dreams from My Father or The Audacity of Hope. This statement was taken from a March 2007 article about Barack Obama"
it probably is racist, against black people. i havent noticed any change in civil rights in america since obama took office. one country that i can think of that has actually changed something racially is south africa with the bee. they call it black economic empowerment. i also see the obama administration continuing to target muslims, and hispanics. it's business as usual, but what do you expect. this is america.
"Obama's Cabinet appointments beat Bush's initial Cabinet appointments hands down in terms of racial/ethnic/gender diversity on nearly all counts, with women and Asians faring the best"
"Obama's Cabinet appointments beat Bush's initial Cabinet appointments hands down in terms of racial/ethnic/gender diversity on nearly all counts, with women and Asians faring the best"
Which only makes me loathe Obama all the more!
Why were they appointed? Because of their diversity, or because they were the best peoples for the job?
Praising somebody for being diverse is discriminatory.
Do you now loathe Romney since instead of chosing from qualified candidates who were male - he actively sought out (binders full of) women to fill the position instead?
I could have sworn I heard something about you leaving. None the less, I suppose you're still antagonizing Qymosabi. That is certainly a goal I can support.
Still though, I'd like to know why one would think that the current administration is racist. Enlighten me.
My argument - long and riddled with sources - is forthcoming. I've spent the last hour googling for additional sources.
Only one of the issues you've brought up in your post has anything to actually do with Obama. And it's a paltry attempt at making his accusation of a police officer acting stupidly a racist accusation.
Only one of the issues you've brought up in your post has
One? That is not so. For instance, the quote from "Dreams From My Father" and his pastor's radicalism. Why would he have gone to a church for twenty years if he disagreed with the church's fundamental principles?
You've never seemed like the church-going type, so I'll describe how each and every one of the Christians I have known pick a church.
They go to one.
If they disagree with even a very small issue, many times they will leave it. If they disagree with a humongous issue - such as preaching racism - they would always leave it and think of it with disgrace. To them, it's a cult.
Thus, all you are saying is that either he is not a Christian and doesn't really care where he goes - all for appearances - or he is so stupid that he doesn't even see racism when it's fed to him on a silver platter.
For instance, the quote from "Dreams From My Father" and his pastor's radicalism.
That quote isn't from his book. It comes from Steve Sailer's "critique" of the book in his article in the American Conservative. I also have the book, and have read it, and know the quote isn't in there.
You've never seemed like the church-going type, so I'll describe how each and every one of the Christians I have known pick a church.
I grew up in the church, actually. Both of my parents were pastors, my mother a Methodist minister and my father a United minister, and are both now Theologians teaching at Graduate schools.
If they disagree with even a very small issue, many times they will leave it.
Many times... and with equal frequency, often won't leave the church.
If they disagree with a humongous issue - such as preaching racism - they would always leave it and think of it with disgrace. To them, it's a cult.
When did Jeremiah Wright preach racism during a sermon? All you have to do is provide a clip of one of his racist sermons or even a transcript from one of his sermons.
I wrote the "Obama Administration".
Which doesn't magically rebut my point. Cone isn't Barack Obama. Jeremiah Wright isn't Barack Obama. The quote you miss-cited from "Dreams from my Father" weren't written by Barack Obama. You can't turn Barack Obama into a racist simply because you think two other people are racist, and he happens to know one of them. Nor is he a racist because he called a cop's actions stupid. And if you want to talk about the "Obama administration", then nothing you've written makes it racist.
It comes from Steve Sailer's "critique" of the book in his article in the American Conservative. I also have the book, and have read it, and know the quote isn't in there.
And I've other people, who also claim to have read the book, who claim that it is in there.
Many times... and with equal frequency, often won't leave the church.
On a small issue, not a major one. Racism - especially for somebody in Obama's position - ought not be tolerated.

They don't seem to have done too good a job with you. However, I must say that I can now completely understand your dismissal of religion.

Here is the book. You're free to check it out yourself - no longer need to rely on others.

My father's girlfriend's parents go to a church where the pastor is at the very least racially insensitive, they've been there for their entire lives. And they're not racists - nor are they racially insensitive - and yes, they are white, and so is my father's girlfriend. I can also point to innumerable other examples of people who don't share the major, personal views of their pastors, but go to a specific Church for doctrinal or theological reasons.
They don't seem to have done too good a job with you.
Okay.
However, I must say that I can now completely understand your dismissal of religion.
No you can't. I don't dismiss religion. I dismiss the object of worship: god. I'm an atheist, not anti-religion.
This seems like a pretty good one
Where's the racism? Point it out. What does he say that's racist? He's certainly said some things that are scathingly critical about American foreign policy (present and historical). But that's not racist.
And then there is this one
Where is the racism on his part? He made a comment about America furnishing Israeli racism (obviously against Palestinians). Why is that him being racist?
It seems like you just went to Youtube, searched "Jeremiah Wright racist" and plucked out some videos that had similar headings. And again, Jeremiah Wright isn't Barack Obama. And he certainly has nothing to do with Obama's administration. Your only argument - literally - is to argue guilt by association.
Why not a gerbal? He must be racist against gerbals then huh? You have no proof of him being racist. Even psycho Glenn Beck at to change his mind when faced with facts whether Obama is racist. I believe one of two things are going on, you want to excuse your racism by saying basically "he did it first" or you are a synical asshole.
Either way, really, no one wants you on CD so hurry up and leave.
Those on the other side appoint blacks and Indians to position but are still called racists. Does two appointments prove otherwise. Robert Byrd was in the Klan and because he was a democrat, he couldn't be racists. Seems the only racists are republicans.
Those on the other side appoint blacks and Indians to position but are still called racists - you are tilting at windmills that are not here; I don't see any arguments in this debate about Republican racists.
actually, if you click on the article I quoted, it mentions that before Obama, the most diverse Cabinet was that of George W. Bush
Of course Byrd was a racist, that doesn't mean he stayed that way:
The initial Republican Party was opposed to the expansion of slavery (it was still racist, just a lot less racist than the Democrats). After the civil war and reconstruction, the parties began to undergo a shift in terms of race politics. After the FDR/Truman presidencies weren't racist enough, the Dixiecrats split off into their own political party in 1948 under Strom Thurmond - and both the Republican and Democratic party platforms denounced racism. For a while, both parties had fairly good record on race (at least at the top level). In 1968, during the Civil Rights movement, the white southern racists split off and voted for Alabama governor George Wallace who ran on a platform of segregation. That election combined with Nixon and Reagan's southern strategy / state right's rhetoric has solidified most remaining white southern racists into the Republican party. This is not to say that all racists are Republicans nor that all Republicans are racists.
If you believe Obama is a racist, I would be interested to know why.
"Well, it's easy to state what has been my biggest mistake. The greatest mistake I ever made was joining the Ku Klux Klan. And I've said that many times. But one cannot erase what he has done. He can only change his ways and his thoughts. That was an albatross around my neck that I will always wear. You will read it in my obituary that I was a member of the Ku Klux Klan"
on the other hand, Strom Thurmond, who lead the Dixiecrats with a platform of segregation in 1948 and became a Republican in 1964, said in an interview with Joseph Stroud of the Charlotte Observer in July 1998
"I don't have any regrets"
and when asked if he wanted to apologize, he said, "I don't have anything to apologize for,"
and when asked if he thought the Dixiecrats were right, he said, "Yes, I do."
Really? You serious? Are you people like 4 years old?
The minimum length for an argument is 50 characters. The purpose of this restriction is to cut down on the amount of dumb jokes, so we can keep the quality of debate and discourse as high as possible.
I actually meant that in a figuring out sense, rather than an inability to understand you. A lot of people seem pretty easy to peg, provoke, and/or take advantage of. You? Not so much.
