The Pope, The Catholic Church & The Pedophiles Within!

Are the Pope's apologies enough or?

Should we litigate each case?

I believe the Catholic Church has gotten away with the sexual abuse of its young boys far too long. Pope Benedict XVI has made public apologies in each country he has visited and issued the same to those he has not. In an article written by Michael Perry of Reuters in Sydney, Australia he writes "Benedict said sexual abuse by clergy had damaged the Catholic Church." In another paragraph he writes, "Victims of abuse have said the pope must not just apologize for past church abuse but implement an open and accountable system of investigating abuse claims. They say the Catholic Church in Australia continues to try and cover-up abuse."

While Pope Benedict is correct in saying sexual abuse has damaged the church, I am dismayed that he didn't think to make a point of mentioning the damage this has done to their youth around the world! I believe that an open and accountable system by which to investigate and litigate, in a court of law, these claims of abuse is the avenue by which recompense can be made and priests be defrocked and brought to justice rather than hidden in another parish or far off library at the other end of the earth.

Why should we give them the ability to continually go around raping any young boy they want? What makes them so special? Because they claim to be the voice of a social head figure? Would we give anyone else, reguardless of position the ability to do this? HELL NO WE WOULDN'T! It shouldn't matter that they are the "leaders" of a massive religion. Everyone is human and everyone should be rewarded or punished as such. If we saw the Islamic head figures doing this kind of shit everyone knows we would be all over it in an instant; if we saw the Jewish head figures doing this kind of shit everyone knows we would arrest and send them to trial. So what makes the Catholics so special? It's the ability to scare you and make you believe that if you prosecute them you are condemning yourself to hell! Don't give them that power! We need to arrest and prosecute everyone we know is performing these acts, reguardless of political or social position, and have them arrested.

They have committed a crime, an apology from somebody else is not a proper punishment.

Would it help if priests were allowed to marry?....

eh, the cases are usually settled outside of court. really, there's nothing we can do much more.

the pope has also spoken with many victims and they actually get quite emotional afterwards... this would tell me that he is very sincere about the victims.

how they deal with the priests themselves is a different issue though.

Side: Do we accept acknowledgment?

It is wonderful that Pope Benedict has spoken with so many victims and I do feel he is sincere in his attempts to apologize to the myriad of victims who have been exposed to this type of behavior by the hierarchy of the church at large. I see this as only a part of the larger problem and hope they can rid the church of these pedophiles.

they try to, but it often gets hard since the pope doesn't see what happens in each region.

There is a separation of church and state, but only up to a certain point. Up to the point where our laws are broken. And rape is something that is outside of our laws therefor we must take action otherwise it won't stop. For all we know, the pope only did that to maintain his street cred. He might not even care and since the victims are within our jurisdiction it is our responsibility to take action.

you can only convict for as long as the victim wishes to continue the charge. THEY'RE SETTLED OUTSIDE OF COURT!
