Oh that link leads to some very interesting reading. I've always been particularly interested in the crucial role propaganda played in the Nazi's rise to power and I've been watching it emulated here by Fox news and all the rest of the Reich wing garbage fake news outlets. The science of capturing weak minds just scares the hell out of me because of how incredibly effective it is and having seen how effective it has been in this country is dismaying to say the least. I don't understand why there hasn't been more written about this. I've been expecting psychologists to make more noise about it but it hasn't happened yet. Side: Lugenpresse

Horrifying, I agree. We did almost a full year on Nazi propaganda in school, so it is simply baffling to see it being used again in a modern context. I just assumed everybody had learned enough about it to recognise it, but alas apparently that is not so. Maybe we just had a good history teacher. Side: Lugenpresse

In his memoir, written in 1952, Franz von Papen recalls his appointment as German chancellor in mid-1932: "On 26 May 1932 I received a telephone call from General von Schleicher who asked me to come to Berlin on an argent matter… He told me it was the President’s wish to form a cabinet of experts, independent of the political parties. Bruning had insisted, so Schleicher told me. that he would never sit at the same table as the National Socialists https://alphahistory.com/weimarrepublic/ Side: But Mein Upside Down Facts

What do our resident Holocaust deniers have to say about the role of the Conservative elite in the Nazi rise to power? His second in command was an overt Marxist. Communism. Jewry. Goebbels’ article, “Nationalsozialisten aus Berlin und aus dem Reich”, Voelkischer Beobachter, February 4, 1927 One class has fulfilled its historical mission and is about to yield to another. The bourgeoisie has to yield to the working class ... Whatever is about to fall should be pushed. We are all soldiers of the revolution. We want the workers' victory over filthy lucre. That is socialism. Quoted in Doctor Goebbels: His Life and Death, Roger Manvell, Heinrich Fraenkel, New York, NY, Skyhorse Publishing, 2010 p. 25, conversation with Hertha Holk The political bourgeoisie is about to leave the stage of history. Lieutenant-Colonel Franz Joseph Hermann Michael Maria von Papen zu Köningen He belonged to the group of close advisers to president Paul von Hindenburg in the late Weimar Republic. It was largely Papen, believing that Hitler could be controlled once he was in the government, who persuaded Hindenburg to appoint Hitler as Chancellor in a cabinet not under Nazi Party domination. However, Papen and his allies were quickly marginalised by Hitler and he left the government after the Night of the Long Knives, during which some of his confidantes were killed by the Nazis.
