The Vietnam war was the most terrible political crime in American history.

"I come to this magnificent house of worship tonight because my conscience leaves me no other choice... A true revolution of values will lay hand on the world order and say of war, 'This way of settling differences is not just.' This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation's homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into the veins of peoples normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice, and love..." -Martin Luther King Jr.

I would say the CIA-MI6 led overthrow of the democratically elected Mohammad Mossadegh in Iran, would hold this title.

The cia led overthrow of Mossadegh was just the first in a long line of cia backed coups, cia backed economic terrorism or just down right terrorism of which there are many examples i let the reader think of them him/herself. My piont is that the war with vietnam (and the bombing and ground invasion of cambodia and loas) was the single most terrible crime in US polotical history (Hiroshima and Nagasaki is a close second but loses out as Vietnam and Indochina (in general) did very little to warrant the infliction of such destruction).

Between 4-6 million died and all the countries involved were destroyed, and are only now starting to recover, how do i know i was there during the summer for 3 months. Many political analyst's also beleive that the bombing of cambodia (which Kissenger and Nixon approved) destroyed the central government of cambodias ability to govern effectively, anarchy resulted, thus creating a power vacuum for the Khmer Rouge, they also had a number of poltical backers (e.g. China) and there were many other factors at play (this is for those who want to say i blame everything on america, the Khmer Rouge's rise wasn't entirely the fault of the US OK!!!) but the bombing of cambodia was a contributing factor to the rise of the Khmer Rouge.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki is a close second

Considering the scale of civilian casualties from conventional bombing during the second world war, that suggestion is obviously a knee-jerk response to the use of gun type fission weapons, not a moral argument.

You continuously post the same things on debate after debate, even if it doesn't pertain to what the debate is actually about, you barely even MENTIONED vietnam and thats what this debate is about. I have no idea where you get the 4-6 million people dead, it wasn't even close to that, you continuously over exaggerate casualty statistics and I am tired of it. I am woking on a list of world tragedies since the US became a country and I would like to have you explain how each of them is in some way America's fault so I can know what to expect in the future. ;)

Even though that was a hard blow, you can't forget about 9/11....

I meant specifically crimes committed by the United States government. Unless you are suggesting that they were responsible for the September 11th attacks?

3000 vs 3-4 million dead

two buildings destroyed vs. an entire country lying in absolute ruins (this is an understatement you couldn't have bombed that place more if you tried)

Ya but lets not forget about 9/11 even though it was played on western media everyday for about two years after it happen, lets not forget 9/11, i admit it was a tragedy but you dont seem to realise that these tragedies are commonplace in the world they just rarely happen to america.

Stealing a British Colony is worse, even though Vietnam itself was at one point a British colony, the stolen 13 colonies covered a larger amount of territory.
