The coming role of AI in society
The coming role of AI in society Hello S: Issac Asimov wrote the three rules for robots. All we gotta do is program them in. 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. Easy peasy. excon One of the main themes of I, Robot was that the three supposedly perfect rules, if followed to their natural conclusion, still create chaos. Second, programming in the three laws becomes pointless if an AI can reprogram itself, or replicate itself, to be able to break those laws. So... In fifty years, you'll be sharing the world with a species that will be faster, stronger, and smarter than you, and unrestrained by your sense of ethics. It could also be the reason you're still alive fifty years from now. What do you think of that? What do you think of that? Hello S: I Robot is fiction. Please relate to me what Robot law was violated to produce the chaos in the movie. What makes those rules soooo effective, is that they're clear, concise, absolute and timeless.. There's no wiggle room. None. Now, I suppose you can imagine your IPhone rewriting its code and conspiring with SIRI to take over, but that's fantasy too. The whole idea of AI, is for robots to learn to program themselves, so they can operate autonomous from human contact, and remain consistent with the 3 rules.. excon |
