The pope by telling African nations to not use condoms ventured into Jim Jones´s terrain

The Pope recently on a visit to Africa held a public speech where he said that Africans shouldnt use condoms. Africa having a "small" problem with Aids, the pope might have indirectly caused a bunch of deaths.

To me that is little better than Jim Jones getting his 900 diciples to drink the Kool-aid

Responsible?

Given that millions of people hung from every word this guy spits out, then I'd say, yea, he IS responsible for what he says to them.

But they are equally responsible for listening to a guy, that flies in with a 5 star jet, has an entourage of hundreds, stays at 5 star hotels, wears garments made of the most expensive silk and jewelery in the world, arrives in their village in a bullet proof limo, walks onto the stage aided by his 24 carat gandalf stick... and then proceeds to tell them the word of God... and that word of God says that on top of your misery, you should also abstain from sex... and then 5 minutes later he gets back in his limo, back in his jet, back to his city which is also a country where he makes the law, and possibly back to his sex dungeons where he has his orgies with a dozen boys and hoes...

You know what. I take it back. He is NOT responsible. They get what they deserve by listening to him. All I see is a man that has been given the power to speak for God, and he is doing just that...

That a southern Baptist hick would let this condom use concern him is to be expected, but when the head of one of the most powerful organizations in the world does it... something is upside down in this world

Why is something upside down? Because the Pope wants people to be faithful to their spouses and keep it in their pants until they're married? Oh no! How dare he preach something from the Bible!

If you don't agree with him, that's fine. But there is nothing wrong with his stance.

What is upside down is that a religious ideal is being put before a terrible reality of disease and death.

This man is so putting religion before the safety and value of millions of lives.

Sorry Mick, there's plenty wrong with his stance when he tells people that condoms won't prevent AIDS. That's just wrong! I think I did the last debate on this topic and quoted his speech. I just couldn't believe he would say something like that, and in Africa of all places.

I wouldn't say he's responsible, because people need to learn not to listen to idiots like the pope who have no idea what they are talking about.

I mean really? Abstinance? These people are lucky if they're not shot before they reach the age of 13, and you want them to worry about a disease that will kill them in 20 years?

Tell them to use condoms, quit being a self-righteous asshole.

should I tell them, or the pope?

I dont have the distribution

lol, I wasn't being literal, but I think you should try and tell the pope what I said anyway.

The Pope encouraged people to remain abstinent until marriage and to remain faithfully to your spouse. The best way to stop AIDS is by cutting down on how it is spread and by not having sex until marriage you can cut the risk of AIDS considerably.

You seem to be making ant-Catholic debates. Why is that?

No it isn't, because people have sex even if you tell them not to.

Abstinence ordinances have failed so miserably that it's unethical at this point to even pretend to make the case that they have any benefit or meaning to people.

"The best way to stop AIDS is by cutting down on how it is spread and by not having sex until marriage."

Actually, this statement is true. Abstaining from sex would definitely ruin any chances of getting AIDS via sex and if everybody did so, the disease would eventually be confined to smaller populations or die out. It doesn't matter if people still have sex- abstinence is still the "best way to stop AIDS".

This doesn't mean people will follow this. It just means that it is foolproof, in reference to the spread of AIDS via sex.

Okay I have thought about this a lot. That's kind of a good point.

I think everyone should personally decide for themselves how they can be safe and healthy.

If they don't choose abstinence they can use protection. If they chose neither, it's their funeral.

But, Technically, abstinence until marriage works the best. It's just that it cannot be forced(key word) on everyone.

But I still think giving out condoms at school sends out the wrong message. They can buy their own. Schools should promote abstinence as the best way, and kids would still have the freedom to choose to buy protection if they so choose.

Give everyone the information and let them decide. Just like Fox News ((;

The only way to stop AIDS is by:

Promoting abstinence, urging people to remain faithful to their partners, fighting rape and promoting the use of condoms.

Exactly! He didn't tell them to go out and have wild sex with everyone they see, but don't use a condom. He is totally indoctrinated in Catholic beliefs, which includes the fact that sex should only be between a married couple and they shouldn't use contraception. I'm not 100% in agreement with this, but that's okay. :)

Nice angle. - From his point of view because he predisposes a few absolutes (not just for him, but for all) and everything must work around absolutes then what he said is totally on the upside according to those dispositions - than that free´s him of responsibility for his words.

In a classic, they´re not my words, they where Gods.

Circular logic works because circular logic works

Reality really is what you can get away with :)

well Tugman I would say anti-church debates, not catholic exclusively, but best to aim at the source

and why?... It comes naturally

In short I think that the idea that all the intricacy´s and all the glory of the natural world can be explained and consecrated in one book, as silly as the intricacy´s of a cow (its brain, DNA structure, nervous system, etc.) being consecrated in a hamburger

How exactly does waiting until marriage to have sex reduce the risk of AIDS? Last time I checked, though I could be wrong, having a guy say some words in front of you and your wife does not magically make you invulnerable to STDs.

Also get out of here with your stop making anti-Catholic debates crap. Just because the Pope is the leader of Catholicism does not mean we cannot criticize his actions. If the Pope went on a murdering spree and someone said "Wow what a jerk" you would probably say "Hey stop being anti-Catholic."

I don't know about the whole working for God thing, but words don't do shit, whether you like it or not.

The Sex act and sharing of needles is what causes AIDS to spread. I know, it may be hard to grasp, but words don't transfer AIDS.

Jim Jones is responsible for putting poison into kool aid, but the people who drank it are responsible for their own god damn deaths. They're fuckin' morons. If anything, it's Natural Selection at work when people do stupid shit just because someone told them to do so.

I can tell someone right now to jump off a bridge, and if he does, it's HIS fault.
