I’m a leftist. I don’t love and defend Islam.

Claiming to be the exception doesn't make your party any less of the above.

There’s a very particular image of Islam being portrayed by very violent people who practice Islam. They call themselves Muslims and most Muslims are unable to refute this. That’s because the extremists support their behavior with scripture. They are rigorous and technically accurate. They too are Muslims.

No one believes that these Muslims are allied with Leftists. Rather, Leftists seem unable to stand against these Muslims and thus appear allied with them. The usual excuse is that they are too inarticulate to distinguish violent Islamic extremists from regular non-violent Muslims. Anytime it is unavoidable to talk about violent Islamic terrorists, Leftists have to constantly remind themselves and their viewers that they are not talking about non-violent Muslims, since to them it is somehow not apparent. But most of the time, they avoid terrorist motive altogether, thus they appear to allie with said motive.

This is nonsense in every way. Islam is not actually what is portayed as in those pictures.

The Quran is worse than those pictures. ISIS recruited over 250,000 militants in less than a month.

Islam is strictly against harming any individuals.

The Quran commands death and harm to infidels over 500 times.

Plus, just because you're against Islam and you don't like leftists doesn't mean that they like each other.

Uh huh. It wasn't Leftists blocking Trump's travel ban. It was unicorns from Venus. It isn't leftists defending Islam at every waking hour like mindless cultists.

Not an actual alliance, just an apparent one. Leftists are too collectivist for nuance. So when Islamic extremists bring violence and mayhem, as they commonly do, Leftists aren’t able to talk about it without other leftists accusing them of racism (since that’s the primary collective slander they know how to sling). Since Leftists don’t believe we can discuss Islamic extremism without be racist, they prefer to be very quiet about it. So quiet that they will report entire news stories about Muslim extremists training children in the US for terrorist school shootings without ever mentioning the religious motive.
