The weakness of democracies is highlighted in times of conflict.

Throughout history the politicians of the democratic nations have always been painfully slow to confront aggression and, instead of recognizing a growing threat, ( which is what they're paid to do)  have been notorious at permitting the opponents of freedom to develop into a significantly more formidable foe before facing the menace  head on. Even the United States of America had be be given a kick in the testicles, ( Pearl Harbour) before it ''reacted'' and entered WW2.  In my judgement the fight against Muslim terrorism is too little, too late and woefully lacking any form of long term coherent strategy. Too many Neville Chamberlains and too few Winston Churchill's.

What the hell are you talking about?

The USA has been one of the most aggressive and powerful Nations on the planet since its inception some 220 years ago. Many would say, in completely diametrically opposed opinion to your claim, that we have indeed been TOO aggressive. We have been called War Mongers and Oppressive Colonizers.

Only 240 years! Compared to many other nations and States, we are still infants. (But didja know we have the oldest Constitution?)

IN 240 years...we have engaged in........

The American Revolution

The War of 1812

The Mexican-American War (basically a land-grab on our part over poor ol' Mexico!)

The Civil War! (such is our propensity for fighting we even do it amongst ourselves! LOL)

Teddy Roosevelt's "Splendid Little War!"

WWI--granted, we only got in for the last 18 mos. or so. But still, we were very crucial in helping the Allies overthrow the Axis Powers.

WWII--Greatest Generation and all that! What do you mean we waited too long? We declared war on Japan the very next day! Up till then we were crippling them with Economic Sanctions for their attacks on the Philippines and on China. Our aggressiveness in this way was the main reason the Japs attacked us! Also, don't forget that we were then at war two days AFTER Pearl with both Germany and Italy. (Yes..they declared war on us, not we on them.

Korea...we intervened in a Civil War where the North was too-greatly aided by Commie China. (oops..almost forgot, Korea was not a war but a "conflict." LOL...yeah, right. Tell that to the 40,000 US soldiers who died.

Vietnam...same sorta deal, amigos. We used the commie "domino effect" as a lame justification. And it was lame. And false. We had Cold War ethos and paranoia at work. 58,000 dead for us.

Desert Storm..a cakewalk. But we left the job unfinished. And this fact lead to........

OEF and OIF.....Wow! Ten Years! Some 7000 young Americans killed. Not to mention the thousands of others who suffer from PTSD, or committed suicide. Who knew? Botched from the git-go, this War. (really TWO.) See, We went after the wrong guys, thanks to W who wanted to make good with Daddy by getting the guy who once put a fatwa out on Bush the Elder. (I am a veteran of that little dance in "the Sandbox.")

So there ya go...a pretty impressive list I must say. Especially since our country has only been around for about six generations.

And besides: what is your preferred form of government to a Democracy? A tyrannic Monarchy? Communism? An Oligarchy? Plutocracy, perhaps? (some say we are indeed a bit of those two governmental systems today.)

It's like Churchill once said.........

"Yes..you're right. Democracy is probably the worst and mosrt inefficient type of government in thw world.

Except for ALL THE OTHERS."

LOL.

Disclaimer....I made that list and the descriptions of wars, the history, on my own, just typing stream of consciousness. I did not Google anything. I am a bit of a history buff, ya know. So...if there are any discrepancies in the list I apologize and will stand corrected. If you can prove them, that is!

Oh yeah.........I always like to finish my total destruction of somebody's erroneous post with a link that has some irrefutable facts. Thus...please check this out! LOL

PLEASE READ IN FULL. You've gone off there half cocked old bean. My post was not a slight on the United States of America which I hold in the highest esteem. For years, on different social media sites I have extolled the achievements of the U.S, it's rock solid stand against bullying dictatorships and those aggressive nations, such as China, with aspirations of expansionism. I have on countless occasions expressed my opinion that WW2 could not have been won without the intervention of America. Germany could not have been defeated without a second front and there would not have been any second front without the know how, the wherewithal, the courage of it's armed forces and the best military leaders of all the allies. Whilst your pride in you great nation is admirable, and respected by me, I don't need anyone to give me a lecture on the outstanding achievements of the greatest country on earth. I studied American history at school and was over awed at the self reliance, innovation and energy of it's people. I feel that I'm a more patriotic American than many of your countrymen. My point is that for democratic governments, including the U.S ,to be able to act decisively against such a menace as the so called I.S, filth, carnage on an enormous scale must occur before the democratic leaders act. When they do, as in the current Muslim crisis, it is normally too little too late. You mentioned the Mexican war as being a ''land grab'' exercise. I don't see it like that. My interpretation of that war was that under-resourced and greatly outnumbered American volunteers and professional soldiers routed a superior, well trained and equipped Mexican Army. Now Obama and his loonie left cronies are betraying the sacrifice of these and other American heroes of yesteryear by permitting the U.S.A, to be swamped by Mexicans, and now Muslims. Which of these two menaces represent the greatest threat to America is debatable.

If the people want to let Mexicans and Muslims in, it's their choice. The government is supposed to just help give people what they want.
