There is a reason we have free speech, and it isn't to defend ideas of puppies and rainbows and shit. It's not to defend the ideology of 'speak your mind, but only if you agree with us', it's to defend the ideas other groups of people (especially the government) don't like. Yes, this will foster some reprehensible people and ideologies, but you can support their right to think and say whatever they damn well please without supporting the ideas themselves. That is why there is no hate speech. There's free speech, and then there's the free speech that most of us have the good sense to ignore, so stop giving it undue attention by labeling it "hate speech" just because you disagree. Side: No
The concern would be the abuse of the term "hate speech". What's to really define it and how do we make sure it's not abused. If you called me a bitch would that constitute hate speech? People are always trying to claim they are a victim of something, it would be too easy for people to abuse that and cause issues for others as a form of retribution for any perceived slight. Side: No

Do I believe in free speech? Yes, definitely. Do I think hate speech should be illegal? No, probably not. I think people should be able to believe and say what they want. I don't think hate speech should be tolerated at work and such, but outside of the workspace you should have the right to voice your opinions. Side: No
You bring up an interesting point. As of now, hate speech is free and legal, so could there be issues if employers fire employee's who have been proven to be a part of a hate rally such at White Supremacist march? They are protected under freedom of speech, so what technicalities do you think Employers can rely on if any? Side: No
