There are "rights" for the needy but no one talks about the "rights" of the able bodies
Smart people are able to accumulate wealth by doing things that benefit them but that also benefits other people. But they will not waste their money on things that do not help them make money. But why should they? They are not under any obligation to provide their time, energy and money to other people at their own expense. Forcing the able bodied to provide for those who are less able is like forcing someone to live his life for the sake of someone else. In other words, those who are better off are being punished for being better off. Imagine if you had to work a certain number of months during the course of the year just so that someone less able than you can have a better life. You would be happier if you were to volunteer but not if you were forced. And what if the successful people decided that they would rather not be so successful so that they can leech of whoever was more successful than they. Then the standard of living of everyone would go down.
Darn, I've never looked at anyone like that Joe. If you're successful I think it's great. Maybe because so many people struggle to make ends meet and they see it as easy when a person has all the things they wish they had but don't. I don't know...that's a tough call for me because even though I don't have it I would never begrudge someone who does.
Joe, I think I understand what you mean but look at my situation for a moment. I collect Worker's Compensation, Social Security and a very small pension from my job with TWA. I cannot make ends meet and nothing I get comes out of your pocket or anyone else's. Even though I make so little I make too much to even qualify for food stamps! I wish I could be eligible for one of those programs but I'm not and I bring in only $2,000.00 a month and cannot work. Now honestly, could you live on that?
I think that we can and should make exceptions for those people who have a "real" need and can prove it. I know how hard that can be with corrupt doctors that will make any claim the patient wants at a price. The bad apples have really screwed things up and made a good thing into a bad thing.
So even though you get $2000 a month for doing nothing, you still complain. I noticed you said you weren't bettering yourself through education or othr means to enable you to get a job. Even in the most socialistic countries, you would get under $2000 a month. But still, you're being greedy and want to take more money from the government to 'survive'. Here's an idea : If you are so low on money give up some of the luxuries within your life. Think of your money as you would if received it from a friend; so even if you something less than you want, be thankful for it. It's is not your right to the goverments money, it is a privilege.
Hey. Kukla has physical problems, and she said she collects workers compensation. THAT'S why she can't work. You don't know her situation is, with her education or her job(neither do I, but I'm not the one making judgments). You don't know what part of the country she lives in and what the cost of living is there. Lay off of Kukla. I like her, and you can chew on my shoe. :) And yeah. I am 5 today. And I am A-Okay with that.
Not exactly complaining is it, just explaining your situation? Kukla also states that she's not taking money from anyone else (or sounds like she feels she's owed it).
And, by the way, it's not wrong to want better for yourself, it's not greedy it's generally what everyone wants, it's the fuggin "American Dream" is isn't it?
It would seem the rights of able bodies people are built into the system whereas the rights of the needy are not and they're not thought of until someone or some group brings it to the fore.
But these so called "rights" of the "needy" directly impact the able bodies where as the opposite is not the case.
For example, the able bodies have a right not to be discriminated against when they apply for a job (does not affect the needy). The needy claim they have a right on the wages of the able bodies (this directly affects the able bodies).
The "needy" claim that the able bodies are a bunch of greedy SOBs and that's why they have a "right" to the able bodies' wages. But there's no evidence to support this. Also, there's little oversight as to whether a person is really "needy' and deserving of the able bodies' wages.
It's a deplorable system that punishes the able bodies for being able.
"The "needy" claim that the able bodies are a bunch of greedy SOBs and that's why they have a "right" to the able bodies' wages. "
Says who. Lots of "claims" going on with little in the way of proof. I put it to you that the benefits offered to the "needy" were more likely put forward by "able" people who actually just give a shit about others.
"But there's no evidence to support this. "
Oh, OK so make a wild statement, then quietly add that it's unprovable.
"It's a deplorable system that punishes the able bodies for being able."
WHAT? No. How is helping out people who need it deplorable? Quite the opposite, it is admirable that society helps those who need it. I don't feel like I'm being punished, especially as I'm paying the same small contribution as everyone else.
It is deplorable because they claim that this is a free society and then they turn around and write laws that force you to be charitable. Charity should be a voluntary thing, otherwise, it's robbery.
"pull their own weight" you mean like actually helping society in general? Like paying taxes which in turn is distributed to help those less fortunate; like those that need it?
Pulling your own weight does not mean providing for the lazy asses of society. It means not being a lazy ass in the society and taking care of yourself so that someone else doesn't have to take care of your ass.
Need does not constitute entitlement. People think that their needs constitute a right.
"Pulling your own weight does not mean providing for the lazy asses of society." No it doesn't, but you appear to want to stop paying for those that do need providing for because of those that abuse the system, rather than fix the problem.
"People think that their needs constitute a right." Who are these people? I've never met someone who didn't genuinely deserve help who thought they had a right to benefits. Those benefit frauds I have known are all scum suckers who would rather keep their heads down and carry on abusing the system than risk rocking the boat.
OK, no, I don't want to stop paying for everyone. I would fix the problem by having a very specific list that constitutes "need" and a dead line when those benefits run out. Any continuance would be based on a well documented record of what was done to get off the benefits. in other words, benefits are not for life.
The people that think that their needs constitutes a right are the ones that call the able bodies greedy instead of being thankful for what they get. You don't know how many people complain that they don't get enough from the federal government or the state instead of providing for themselves. These are the same people that demand more and try to vote themselves more benefits.
