"Thou shalt not kill" only applies to members of your own tribe.

"Thou shalt not kill" only applies to members of your own tribe. Everyone else is fair game.

Read the "Ten Commandments" (and there are 3 different versions of them: Exodus chapter 20, Exodus chapter 34 and Deuteronomy chapter 5).

Then take note that after instructing the Israelites to not kill:

God orders destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there -- resulting in the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, (Deuteronomy 3).

He orders an attack on Jerico and the killing of "all the living creatures of the city: men and women, young, and old, as well as oxen sheep, and asses" (Joshua 6).

He orders the murder of all the people of Jabesh-gilead, except for the virgin girls who were taken to be forcibly raped and married.  (Judges 21)

God approves of the slaughter (in verse 6) of a peaceful people. "The men of Dan came to the town of Laish, whose people were peaceful and secure. They attacked and killed all the people and burned the town to the ground. There was no one to rescue the residents of the town, for they lived a great distance from Sidon and had no allies nearby.  (Judges 18:27-29)

Lets hear God's own words: My angel will go before you and bring you to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites; and I will wipe them out. (Exodus 23:23)

"You are my battle-ax and sword," says the LORD. "With you I will shatter nations and destroy many kingdoms. With you I will shatter armies, destroying the horse and rider, the chariot and charioteer. With you I will shatter men and women, old people and children, young men and maidens. With you I will shatter shepherds and flocks, farmers and oxen, captains and rulers. (Jeremiah 51:20-26).

God does not want his people to kill each other (except if they disobey God). However, to obey God, the Israelites had to kill members of other tribes, even the unborn, newborns, infants and children. Thou Shalt Not Kill? If directed to do so by God, you have an obligation to kill.

That is absurd. The Qu'ran says that the killing of nonbelievers is okay.

Besides, even if it were true, it is illegal to kill and that would not change regardless of the 10 Commandments.

It is absurd but, if you believe the bible, it is a fact. God not only approved of killing lots of non-Hebrews, he ordered it to be done. Kind of hard to reconcile that with the commandment not to kill. The current legal consequences for killing does not change that fact. It might stop you from doing it, but then again, when was the last time God told you to kill anyone? I don't think you will have anything to worry about -- until the next war at least.

He ordered it because they were the Israelite's enemies. They were the gentiles - the uncircumcised.

Many schizophrenics claim that God is telling them to do something, and sometimes it is murder. That does not change the fact that it is illegal, morally and ethically wrong, and that they are often mistaken.
