Time dilation only happens for the observer. It does not affect time for anyone else. And under no circumstances does time run backward. For instance, if someone was on a ship traveling near the speed of light, time would slow down for them. They would arrive back on Earth, after many years, having aged little. But the rest of the world would have moved on without them. Side: Nom Was Wrong

Time dilation only happens for the observer. Time dilation happens everywhere there is a gravitational or electromagnetic field. You are confusing two separate concepts: time dilation happening, and time dilation being observed to be happening. Time still moves faster on the Moon than it does on Earth, regardless of whether there is an observer there or not, because the gravitational pull of the Earth curves time more than the gravitational pull of the Moon does. In its natural condition time is flat, not curved. It only becomes curved once you add matter and/or energy to it. And under no circumstances does time run backward. Nobody is talking about time running backwards. We are talking about two separate locations in which time does not run at the same rate. If you spend a decade on the Moon and then fly back to Earth you will be travelling to the past, albeit only from your perspective. From the perspective of people on Earth you will have come from the future and arrived in the present. Side: Hawking Was Wrong

Time Travel To The Past Is Possible And I Can Prove It Let's just clear one thing up before I go any further. Hawking would agree with me too. When people talk about time travel they are usually talking about travelling within the same frame of reference. However, if you are prepared to put space between you and the target you intend to travel to, then time travel becomes extremely simple. It would even be demonstrable were you prepared to "synchronise" two atomic clocks. Anyway, Einstein's theory of time dilation is pretty much a confirmed scientific truth these days, since we use his equations to manage global positioning satellites. I thought I'd squeeze that in because there's always some mad bastard (usually mingmong) who bursts in and thinks they are being edgy by insisting that time doesn't exist. Once you accept that time moves slower in a strong gravitational field than a weak one, time travel to the past becomes as simple as living on top of a big hill for a couple of decades and then travelling back down to level ground. It honestly is that simple. You could also do it by living on the Moon. In fact, this would make the difference considerably more noticeable. Just thought I'd let you all know, anyway.
