To Exist or Not To Exist?

The title explains itself. Do you wish you never existed, or are you glad that you are existent? Would it have been better to never exist and know the world as you do?

I'm glad that I exist because that means I have a purpose in life. Everyone who exists today they all have a purpose in life.

Is the purpose what we make it? Or is the purpose that of god's willing?

If choice #1: I see that being problematic because what if we make our purpose to not have one?

It's the purpose of God will. God called us out to exist because He knew us before we were ever born into this world or even conceived.

I can't stand negative people who are always like 'Ugh, I wish I never existed' or 'Life is pointless, why should I exist?' And I am referring to the people who are well-off and have access to most luxuries that some unfortunate people don't.

Like come on, the world is full of opportunities and happiness. There is plenty to do out there and instead of being miserable ALL the time, why don't you see the bright side of things for once? I, for one, am glad that I exist. I am grateful for everything and I have enjoyed many aspects of life such as good food and entertainment.

What about inevitable pain, misery, and unhappiness? What about having the unluckiness of not being ignorant and understanding the actually devastating world around you?

What about the people who don't have food and entertainment and wish to have never existed, are they negative?

What about the children born into sex slavery, and are imprisoned until someone is ready to have their way with them, and they too wish they never had existed, are they negative?

I should have clarified myself in my argument. I was referring to the people with well-off lives. People who are fortunate enough to have those luxuries in life and yet still complain. Of course, I am sorry to hear about those who go through all the suffering as mentioned in your argument.

Side: Exist

I agree with your argument.

From my point of perspective, life does not have an inherent or grand purpose; however that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it by creating purpose. I want to live my life because I want to experience good entertainment, fantastic food, and love with another being. Though my life isn't worth much on a cosmological level of value, it is worth a great amount on a human level of value.

Even if I never existed, countless other entities would still be here to rejoice and suffer as existence requires. Despite suffering, I personally prefer existence. Given the ability to empathize, preference for non-existence based on the fact of the existence of suffering should conclude with the preference of the non-existence of anything capable of experience.

Basically, I'm glad I exist and that others do too. If I wished not to exist, I would wish others didn't as well.

Side: Exist

Interesting point of view.

I am glad i exist,i mean seriously if you did'nt exist all the things you all have done would have never happened

Honestly, at this point I'd prefer to have never existed at all. This world isn't a good fit for me, and I've been done with it for a while. Maybe some day I'll have a different opinion, though the older I get, the less likely that seems.

It took me a few minutes to realize that the question is not asking "this life on Earth or no life at all", but merely "existing or not" isn't enough information for me to decide. It really depends on how much fun I've been having, and things really have only been looking good for me for the past 2 years.

Yes but would you rather have not existed given this desolate world and self-imperfection?

If I had to choose between my life as a whole up until now, and not existing, I'd definitely go with the latter. If my existence were to have started 2 years ago with all of my knowledge, then that would've been great.

I think we need to ask ourselves whether is there a need for our existence. Our answer to this question will determine whether we should or should not exist. For me, I'm still dubious about the reason of my existence. I'm still searching for an answer, but for now, my existence is meaningless.

Well there definitely is no need for human existence (at least, environmentally speaking), there is a need for most other animals (for the environment), however.

I thinks humans are just a misfortune that happened by pure chance in regards to the process of evolution.

The sooner the human race is the next species to face extinction the better for all the other species that call earth home.

The human race is undoubtably the most ignorant, selfish, greedy, destructive organism to have ever lived on this planet. Our achievement track record is dismal in fact that is an understatement.

No matter how valuable we believe our individual purpose is in life we do not as a race value the precious gift we have in having a life and living it on such an incredible planet.

Ultimately, I hope the accident in evolution that created our beginning will return in the opposite direction and one day end us all before we destroy the planet all by ourselves.
