The only situation that those who support torture can use for their case is the ticking time bomb situation in which you must torture another to extract information to save the lives of others. However, there has never been a single documented case of torture tactics being an effective means to extract true intelligence. I believe we have this crazy notion of innocent until proven guilty, and you cannot torture someone to extract information on something someone may or may not have been involved in. There are certain cases of guilty people withholding information but torture has never proved effective. And what if, the US government, CIA, or Guantanamo bay officials are not infallible gods and can make mistakes, and an innocent person is tortured to extract information they do not have. That innocent person must either admit to false claims to make the torture stop, or endure it to refrain from telling a lie.
