All things on this planet are governed by balances and counter-balances and there is a price to be paid for everything and this includes tourism. According Josh Houston (2005), air travel currently accounts for close to 10 per cebt of the UK's CO2 emissions and is rising rapidly. The obvious benefit of tourism around the Mediterranean is clear for all to see and I have watched a lot of it grow first-hand. But there is a price to pay big time for the environment for a start: a hundred golf courses, for example, use as much water as a city of 1.25 million people and most experts argue this is not sustainable for very much longer.

I don't agree with this statement. Since I think that tourism is more useful for people than harmful. Moreover, people may be beneficial from tourism. For instance, people may improve their health condition, expand outlook, make acquaintance with new people from different countries, find adventures and moreover, they may even find a future spouse. Additionally, it depends on the country, where people want to go as tourists. Besides, tourism is profitable not only for tourists, at the same time is is a very good chance for touristic countries. According to Nicole Vaugeois, tourism in developing countries is very useful in development of economy. For instance, African, Asian, South and Central American countries may be appropriate examples to it. It is an excellent opportunity to relax in countries like these. It could be argued that they are not so dangerous for people. To conclude, it can be stated that tourism is one of the powerful tools in development of the world.

I would like to support you, because to my mind your point of view is quite right. Tourism contributes to social development through job creation, income redistribution and elimination of poverty. According to the report of UNITED STATES INSTITUTE of PEACE (2009), the tourism industry can help promote stability in developing countries by providing jobs, generating income, improving the economy and promoting cross-cultural awareness. Tourism promotes communication between different nations, encourages mutual understanding between the peoples of the world and their cultures and provide cultural exchange between hosts and guests. It helps people to develop sympathy and understanding and to get rid of all stereotypes and prejudices connecting with various nations. It should be mention that at the first World Summit "Peace through Tourism" more than 450 representatives of the travel and tourism industry welcomed the "Amman Declaration," which recognized travel and tourism as industry of world. This document set out to build a culture of peace through tourism, it also defines tourism as the main human activities.

-Elderly Residents.

People after they have retired they move to a destination for some peace and quiet. If that destination becomes a popular tourism destination then their peace and quiet is spoiled.

-Money.

Shops and houses price will increase.

-Attractive landscapes are spoilt by tourism. e.g. beaches get overcrowded, skyscraper hotels, the amount of litter on the streets and pollution.

-Culture.

Tourists from different countries could change a city completely. For example Benidorm was a traditional fishing town but then was made into a tourist hotspot.

-Overcrowding is also a major problem, with loads of tourists hitting the hot climates in the summer, beaches become packed. Which is a bad thing for residents who want to go down and relax, not to be squashed by tourists. Also is many tourists hire cars, traffic congestion will not only be annoying but it will also be regular.

How can tourism harm the society? It helps a society to be exposed and more open which is a good thing. Tourism would also give people more of a chance to buy and sell more things which would not only help the society but as a whole help the economy too.

However, air travel, car travel and other aspects of tourism are adding to the planet's pollution crisis and this is becoming a problem.

Tourism brings money to a country because everyone will be dining there and buying souvenirs.
