Universal Human Rights...

Does the video contain anything you don't agree with?

Can you think of any rights that should be added?

Are universal human rights necessary, and should all nations have the same basic rights for their citizens?

How should universal human rights be enforced?

Is the idea even practical, or merely utopianistic?

What are your thoughts?

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Add New Argument

An extraordinary video and reminder to the world that human rights belong to everyone and must be ensured by all nations with no exceptions.

I believe that this is the first rub or fly in the ointment since human rights differ in so many parts of the world. Trying to get all nations to rally 'round the flag, as it were, would be a monstrous undertaking but that is not to say it cannot be done. It would take an enormous amount of time and effort by all.

To say that the idea of Human Rights is impractical dilutes its importance and to intimate that the idea is Utopian almost defeats the idea itself. It is a lofty undertaking but with each brick that is laid in the foundation it becomes easier to envision and each small success shows us how important it is by the rewards given and seen.

In order to enforce such an idealistic undertaking we must first think of whose realm the responsibility would fall to! Would it be a court of law, a court of human justice, a committee of some kind or a special task force to hear cases? What would the punishments be, if any? To live without those rights for a prescribed time or furthering the ideology by community service to those who do not yet enjoy the benefits of Human Rights?

It is a wonderful idea and if I were Pharaoh I would say..."So let it be written, So let it be done!

People would disagree that you have the right to say whatever you want. They would argue that you have the right to say whatever you want as long as it doesn't infringe on someone else's right to be respected.

It's a nice idea and it would solve a lot of the problems that people have with the world as it stands, but I'm too pessimistic to believe that it will happen. Of course, that doesn't mean we shouldn't attempt to help those around us (and around the world).

Human rights should be enforced, but by each person's moral code or by a large group of people standing up with the person whose rights are being violated.

What an amazing, inspiring video

What we all need is unity

If we band together, even in small communities, then only, can this become a reality

This is a great video, thank you for sharing this! I consider myself one to highly value human rights. On that same note, I find it unfortunate that all too often these human rights are not upheld. For instance, “everyone has a right to a decent wage” is not consistently implemented.

I feel there is a duality to this: these rights are needed and can be implemented, but given the complexity of our society today and competing interests in many fields this is also a view just beyond initial grasp. This does not mean it should not be taught. It means that there needs to be more emphasis on human rights and accountability to uphold those rights for each and every individual.
