How can Liberals do or be better on abortion?

Liberals have long built our support for "choice" on the sacred ability of women to make their own decisions about when to bring a child into the world. We’re happy to have the government regulate businesses, heaIth care, insurance, and high tech among many other parts of society. But when it comes to abortion, we fervently act as if it’s not the government’s business to intrude.

Hello:

Can you be more specific regarding just how much intrusion you're talking about?? Is the intrusion designed to actually STOP abortions from happening, or to virtue signal??

I say that because I don't see ANY enforcement mechanisms being proposed. Without strict enforcement what makes you think women will comply? You can't enforce a law without KNOWING who the law is designed for, and you can't find out who's pregnant without severely INTRUDING in their lives. Strict enforcement means pregnant women will have to register with the government.. Otherwise, how is the government gonna know who to regulate?

Excon, abortion is illegal in countries like El Salvador, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and Honduras. Are these "right wing" nations? In many states in Mexico abortion remains illegal.

I've always been fine with the fetal pain argument. Cut it off at like 20-24 weeks.

The problem is any line you try to draw is going to be inherently arbitrary.

This is a very poorly constructed debate. The question is open-ended, but the debate is designed to be pro/con, and I can't for the life of me figure out what argument each side's heading is meant to correspond to, so I guess I'll just pick this side arbitrarily and say my piece.

Abortion ought to be legal on the grounds that the kinds of people willing to get an abortion are the kinds of people you don't want having kids, anyway. We can make abortion laws better by making the "cut off" date correspond to roughly the time when the fetus has a functioning nervous system (end of 2nd trimester IIRC). Furthermore, men should have the right to "financially abort" themselves from the situation for as long as the woman has the right to abort.
