Violent video games should be banned

Should violent video games, such as GTA and COD, be banned?

I think it depends on what age group you are talking of. If you say about children, then yes i do think that it should be banned from children. There were several researches and studies done by experts which proved that children do what they see. For instance, lets say that children were placed in two rooms, one room with television featuring elmo and the other one with a television featuring power rangers. In the room with elmo, children repeated what elmo taught them but meanwhile, in the room with power rangers, children started portraying the actions on a set of blown up character balloons. This is not a research but something i tried once to prove to my point. This is a clear point that children do what they see or hear sometimes. Also, many parents or older ones who drinks or uses alcohol, or even have or discuss or portray sex to a child, then that child grows up with that level of consciouness in them.

that does not surprise me, but let me ask you this. would a child really hurt someone because of a videogame or a tv show only and solely because of that? what you don't realize is kids are EXTREMELY impressionable, and everything can have a little influence on them, such as peers, elders, family, role models, and etc. and other things too like television, video games, etc. if your child is really being a bad kid because of a videogame then your just not being a good enough parent. kids aren't completely dilusional like a lot of people tend to think, to some extent yes for the really young because they havn't been introduced to the reality of the world we tend to hide from them and for a good reason, but not very high. if a kid was playing a game where you go around running people over, would that kid do the same? the thought of running people over might not even form in his or her little head and if it did, they would quickly disregard it knowing how bad that really is. kids are able to tell the difference between reality and videogames/television/etc. I do agree with what you are argueing for, but I disagree with your argument for it. there needs to be age limits on stuff like that, because they are minor and thier parents may not want them to see that kind of stuff. I think its kind of silly when someone does something bad like steal, or hurt someone, or etc and then we say "he or she must have played too many videogames when she was young" its not like anyone really says that but it seems like we might as well since a lot act like videogames or television could turn a kid into an amorall freak sometimes.

Violent video games should be banned for minors especially. video games may provide relaxation and give a break from studies to the minors, but once it becomes an addiction, the influence it has on an individual may lead them into the wrong path. When it comes to violent video games, the child is influenced to such an extent that they may be forced into wrong doings and has a few too many distractions. Tough the parental brought up of the child and their own responsibility as an individual, there are other external, factors like the society, friends, and also to some extent religion. Addiction also has many drawbacks, once a child is addicted to video games, they would do anything to get it. Also, there are issues related to health, like eyes sight and hearing. Eyes get spoil staring into the screens for long and hearing skills become weak as they then get use to listening to the loud gun shots.

There are many things in violent video games which minors should not watch, for example sexuality. It is not something that the parents would want their teen or child to be looking at in a game. It is their reponsiblity to stop this from happening by looking at what they are getting fro their child. they should not blindly buy what their child wants.

You no it depends on what age you are because if your a kid it should be banned cause it can lead to a bad futer and the person can be tepted to do the exact same thing in real life when they get older and also so if they get addicted it is bad for your health and even your eyes witch leads to (glasses)

There is no reason violent video games should exist. The justification of gore and blood content in video games wil lead to the justification of other horrible content such as rape, bullying, and reinactments of acts of terror. Adults may not be anywhere near as influenced as children, but the bad content of the games will work their way through their minds and subtly affect their behavior and morality - "Hey, rape isn't THAT bad" - "Bullying is normal".

And however carefully these games are marketed, under-21-year-old boys will eagerly grab the games into their hot hands, and turn into the violent and evil characters from the games that were not allowed to be played by them.

And think about the few females who are offended by gore and blood.

I know guys like blood and gore, but can't they go an hour without seeing it?

To start it simply, and don't hurt the feelings of anyone, Violent games should be banned. In all honesty, Violent Games should be banned. Most of the games these days are just shooting and killing. I know that children play those games for entertainment and they also think its fun. But it’s really a serious thing; children don’t need to play violent Games because those games can influence children to do those bad things and killing…etc.

hand to forehead, video games often times act as a release to whatever emotion is built up, popping heads off of pixel men in GTA may of very well stopped someone taking out their anger on another person.

Do video games instill violence as a copping mechanism, maybe in pretend world where the video game is played but in reality there are too many factors that consistently preach the opposite method for a game to actually teach someone to cope violently in real life, the violent methods of the video game are recognized for what they are, pretend. For example church, school and family often teach non-violence towards their fellow members. The culture is anti-violence and more influential than a series of video games. Even if a violent video game was to cause violence it would quickly not do such, for by causing violence the culture would quickly eradicate the behavior, making the cause impotent. for example if a child gets the idea to smack his brother from a game, he will likely very quickly be reprimanded by his brother, mother, father, etc...

So small scale violence from video games are unlikely and quickly countered when they do occur.

Large scale violence: A person doesn't jump from being peaceful to firing a gun at people without a tragic event or a build up over time of deeply penetrating but small and varied misfortunes. A video game will never be varied enough, and likely not played enough, nor penetrate into a persons psych enough to constitute the second and will never on it's own constitute the first. The school shootings that prompted the thought of violent video games as a cause of violence were not caused by games, but by people wishing to disassociate themselves from the actual cause(ie themselves) and thus violent video games became a scape goat.

for similar reasons mid scale violence also isn't a issue.

Banned? No.

Have the same restrictions put upon them that movies currently do? Yes.

Problem solved.

It's not illegal for children to watch R-rated films.

But here's a break down on the legality of film:

Portray actual sex (showing actual penetration and ejaculation) - illegal for minors

Portray real murder (and not for the purpose of news but for commercial intake) - illegal for all

everything else is legal for all to watch. Restrictions on minors are up to the merchants.

I could be wrong, though. I've researched the video game debacle more than movie debacles.

No concrete evidence has been presented which shows that playing of violent video games leads to violent actions. From this assertion we should expect to see a sharp rise in violence since the introduction of videogames, yet we do not see this. In fact we see the opposite. Violence has fallen since the introduction of video games...now am I saying that video games caused the fall in violence? No. I would argue that videogames have little to no affect on violence crime.

I have played the infamous "Grand Theft Auto" and I have never had the urge to proposition a hooker and then run her over with my car...have I joked about it? Yes, Because that shit is funny.

Just because a video game is violent does not mean it should be banned. They do not cause the people playing them to become any more violent. A lot of people have been violent and video games have been the blame for it, but people have been violent for as long as their have been people. But years ago violence like fighting was not so horrible. Their weren't as many people who thought it was a horribly thing. Now fighting is considered bad and an un-intelligent way to resolve things so we pay attention to it more and sometimes blame TV and video games for it.

i agree, because games are not the cause of this violence as people say.People are angry the game is not,and actually games help the human mind in acting to quick judgment.Plus most violent games have to do with stragety, and stragety involves math and science both. The games that are violent are actually helping people to be better at there jobs or even kids to be better at tests. And games also have the ability to help the mind to relax and take a break from a long day.The games also help people more happy in a way thats why gaming is the number one selling items in almost every country in the world. So you see games are good for the mind and for stress relief.

I don't think it should be banned, because I like to play violent video games and it does not necessarily mean that when i grow up (I'm 14),I'm going to be some random murderer. Not everyone is like that. There is only a few people who have killed someone due to a video game. The news likes to dwell on the negative, they only emphasize the fact that people have committed crimes because of violent video games. For example, say if 2500 people played a very violent video and then a few months later 1 out of the 2500 went mad and killed a whole load of people because of that video game, the news or whoever would focus on the fact that 1 person did something wrong, they would totally ignore the fact that 2499 people managed to stay sane and not go on a killing rampage.

Side: No

Sure, Violent games can make some people more aggressive, and others it doesn't affect at all. Blame the bad parents who gave their unprepared children the games, blame the teenagers who took it too far, and blame the idiotic and psychotic adults who get the idea that because you can do it in a game, that it's alright.

In a nutshell, blame the stupid people, not the entertainment.

Havn't people blamed television and movies for similiar problems? Even farther back, didn't they once blame dancing for violence, alcohol and drug use amoung people? Though these have contributed to violence, is it really to blame? if you banned video games for the fear they might cause violance, you would have to also ban many television programs, movies, songs, and even certain people. Yes certain games should not be played by younger children, that is why the ESRB is around. However weather someone is old or mature enough to play a game; that should be judged by the individual and, if it is a child, the parent

I think video games of this genre shouldn't be banned. I know a friend of mine raised in a religious household, and he plays Call of Duty to Far Cry, and I have never seen him think violently or act violently. The reason is because he's responsible. I think irresponsibility is the reason things like the Newtown shootings happen.

no it should not be banned it is a good way to protect your self at home and at war

As long as the parents instill in their children's minds that what they see on those video games should never be emulated in real life, there is no problem with violent video games.
