Virtual Reality?

What is lacking with virtual reality? Why has it not yet caught on, even though the technology has existed for over a decade? What apps/games/features would you want VR to have in order for it to be worth purchasing? I am thinking about developing VR apps as the market is pretty fresh, but I need constructive criticism.

However, to make it a debate I will also pose this question:

Are the top games and apps that were not originally made for VR better than those that were (but are less famous)?

Virtual reality games have been around for a decade, true, but not on the retail level, as their expense has prevented this. But rest assured they are on their way to the retail level.

I have always thought that VR will be the ultimate step in movies, for example. So, right now we have 3D. The next step I think will be Holographic Movies, in which they are not on a flat screen, but rather seen in a sort of box on a stage where they are holographic, i.e. truly Three Dimensional.

Then the next and probably final step will be VR. The viewer will probably wear some sort of VR goggles or a helmet, and by pressing or selecting the requisite buttons, will be able to insert themselves into the movie, seeing it thru the eyes of the character they choose.

I think steps 2 ad 3 should be reversed. We do not have holographic technology yet. However, we do have the technology and software to make first person VR movies.

vr isn't as popular as It could be because vr games don't last that long. a vr mmorpg that takes thousands of hours to complete would make virtual reality a lot more popular because to be worth the high price of vr it has to be worth the money and time is money so the more time the vr can entertain them then the more the vr is worth regardless of the price of vr.

if all vr worked with Netflix and youtube then vr would be a lot more popular because it would be worth the price. there are more non vr games than vr games which is why vr hasn't been more popular than non vr.
