The point of the war (from an American standpoint) was simply: 1. To ensure large amounts of tax money go into the hands of the government's corporate friends (or otherwise justified and spent as desired) 2. Maintain the dollar as the petrodollar 3. Maintain the 'terror threat' 4. Secure cheap, accessible oil Therefore, it's been largely successful. Side: Power

well, it's not really JUST about Iraq freedom... most wars that i can think of were about more than just one simple cause... now, going in could have been prevented (if we had just worked with Cheney and the CIA on the "dark side" instead of sending in troops, we could have assassinated Saddam). of course, all intelligence pointed to Saddam having WMDs of some kind, and he had already broken UN laws, had gone against the treaty and was committing genocide. at a time of crisis, that is more than enough of a reason to go in. of course, nuclear WMDs weren't found (although, chemical were), so now all of a sudden everyone says "no WMDs means we had no reason to go in". that's like your child who's holding something behind his back and you ask if it's a cookie, he says no, and you ask him to show it to you, and he doesn't. do you just say "fuck it, not enough proof to say that he does" or do you make him show you? now it's about stabilizing the middle east and not letting Iran take control. Iraq is already free of a tyrant, now what they need to do is take control of their country (same after the American Revolution, when a tyrant is taken down, a stabilized government and controlled country doesn't just fall into your lap, you have to make it). it's not a waste of blood because the troops fighting joined in order to fight. basically, it's like telling them "you're wasting your time". I have two friends who just joined the military, and trust me, i would never tell them they're wasting their time and murdering innocents. Side: Iraq's freedom is worth it.
