It makes sense. Government workers and politicians are spoiled with all of their Holidays and they should receive the same pay as soldiers.

I think that instead, we should bring back the war tax to pay for all these glorious victories. The reason no one is demonstrating against these wars is because no one is paying for them right now because they're all going on a credit card. We don't need to cut pay, we need to pay for these wars, and since these wars are conducted in the name of all of us, we should all pay for them, and if we don't like it, get involved and do something about it. I'll bet you'd see a lot less "conservatives" getting excited about war, if their taxes got raised too. Asking one group of people who happen to be lucky enough to have a government job to pay for it is picking on one group simply because they were lucky enough to get a descent paying job with benefits from the government.

A lot of government workers (mailmen, teachers, police, firefighters) actually have nothing to do with soldiers going to war, and of that group a minority or even a majority could be opposed to the war in the first place.

This seems like a punishing law, that would be created to punish supporters of war, for their choice, and it's not only unfair to those who don't support the war and would be swept up in this law's fury, but it's also unconstitutional, what with it providing both choices (go to war, do not go to war) but it's making one choice unnaturally more difficult.

Seems to me that it's a bad idea for the opposite reason you just said. If all the government, including politicians, will be making the same, then all the low wage gov jobs will rise substantially. Why would the politician take a pay cut? He can argue with indignant superiority that he supports the troops and wants them to get their fair share. Then all the wages would rise and a large number of the voting public would have a vested interest in keeping the war machine running. And then we would be bankrupt.
