Wealthy celebrities have no business telling ordinary people to give to charity.

They should really lead by example and be noble about it instead of giving a donation and telling the entire media "hey you guys! i gave a donation! everyone pay attention to me now!"

A great majority only do it (like most things they do) to grab more attention.

I'll give when they have as much money as I do from giving to charity.

Well, this certainly must be better than forcefully taxing citizens in order to "help" poor people. This is just the nature of charity. It should be totally voluntary. You can tell people to do anything as much as you want. What bothers me is when the government steps into the equation and taxes you when this should ordinarily be voluntary.

Side: Media attention is beneficial.

I think it is outrageous that governments give to charity while homelessness, hunger and poverty exist at any level within their own country.

Side: Media attention is beneficial.

Forcefully taxing people who have worked hard to earn their money to reward people who mooch off the system. Disgusting.

Side: Media attention is beneficial.

A celebrity acts as a spokesman and the director of a certain charity knows that having a celebrity endorse their charity will cause more people to donate.
