If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.

no i don't think that they are a great innovation because they cause too much violence with younger children. and that causes them to think its OK to use them on others.
are you freaking retarted guns dont kill people they just help do it faster guns DO NOT!!!!!!!!! cause violence the enviroment your brought up in and the chemicals in your head cause violence guns are not the olny things that have killed people knifes pens pencils HANDS!!! and any other object you can think of has or can kill a person in some way or another
i think weapons are a good and bad inavation because they've helped us and hurt us. they helped us during all the wars weve had but hurt us when people go around killing people.
An old lady can stop a body builder from raping and killing her if she's got a gun.
and of course, guns can be used for bad... like shooting up a school.
weapons in general? we need them. if relied on our fists for everything, the weak would die out so soon. unless you're a social darwinist, that's a bad thing.
I belive wepons are a great inovation becouse they helped shape cpur world, wether it be the ease of killing an animal for food perpouses, or killing people in crimes or even just killing people on a game 4 child entertainment
You have to love this one. I ask this one the question and dcool15 answers me by message, declares me an enemy, repubgirl then makes him an ally....LMFAO. And he hasn't written one word here!
Although I don't like guns or their use, I must admit they are truly a tremendous innovation in their complexities. Weaponry has come a very long way throughout the ages and they are, perhaps, an important innovation insofar as modern warfare is concerned. I do not condone their use but can understand their significance.
Weapons don't kill people. People who use those weapons kill people. If there were no weapons, us, as humans wouldn't have survived the stoneage. We'd have been hunted down by hostile animals and we'd never have a chance! Today's world wouldn't exist without weapons. America wouldn't have been created. Just put it like this: If there were no weapons, the human race would never have existed!
I love bladed weapons, they are so artistic! It's art with a purpose, like architecture, and the nature of that purpose gives them darkness and depth. Each of them has a history, an application and links to famous warriors. Each of them has their own disciplines, so much so that it would take years to truly understand the legacy of art from a single weapon.
However, in this age of modern technology, weapons have become too powerful. It's too easy for any of us to wipe out all of us. So now we must work to redirect our violent impulses and find peaceful ways of resolving conflicts.
they arent evil.... they help us get food, and sure we could stand to lose them, but we wouldnt be any better off. There would still be fighting and arguements. Also, if we are so inclined to fight, why do people help each other? Why, even after a bloody battle, did the Union and Confederates trade things like newspaper, coffee, food, water? In the end, we can never get rid of weapons,
"It's too easy for any of us to wipe out all of us."
That's why we have the UN code of conduct stating weapon use... Its not like they didn't think of this... -__-
Ok, good point about weapons helping us hunt for food.
But when I say weapons are evil, I'm talking about modern weapons -- like chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons. Spears and bows and arrows are one thing, but modern weapons have just gotten too powerful.
I said violence is a part of human nature, not the whole thing. People also can be friendly and cooperative. However it's the violent side of human nature that we have to keep an eye on.
The UN has no real authority. If a country decides to ignore them (like we did when we invaded Iraq) , there's not much they can do to stop them. The only things stopping overly aggressive leaders from killing all of us is 1) Basic morality and 2) the concept of mutually assured destruction (if you bomb us we bomb you back). All it takes is one crazy leader and one event to sweep a country into hysteria and then bam, apocalypse.
Well, yeah, bows and arrows were the just some of the FIRST weapons we used to hunt. Guns and knives can also be used to hunt, can they not?
Well, I think everyone can vouch for me when I say that Saddam was a crazed leader... and we got him, and a war is going on, sure... but no apocalyptic event has occurred...
Weapons have gotten way too powerful, I'll give you that... But on another note, you still have to give props to the people who gave us the idea of the weapon, the arrow, the bolt, the sword, and even the gun,
BTW, we are the only people to use nuclear weapons, and that was during WW2 when we bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki... no other nuclear event has happened, which is why they are used only as a threat, not as a regular weapon, and when they are used, they are the absolute LAST option.
Ok, yeah, handguns and knives are ok. I think the line between acceptable and too powerful lies at the pistol or hunting rifle. Something that is intended to take down one person or animal is ok.
Assault rifles, rocket launches, these things I think are too much. You don't need an assault rifle to go hunting. They are not equalizers like Pyg talks about. They are used for the sole purpose of causing mass death and destruction.
Without weapon technology innovations and breakthroughs we wouldn't have lots of other cool stuff like the microwave oven. It's like that trickle down theory thing.
you can also use radar for policework, sonar, search and rescue operations, airliners use them so they dont crash into things and other planes, and other things to keep people safe and under control, not just military reasons.
OK, you win. Let me rephrase, military research instead of weapon technology. In other words, update my argument to read as follows:
Without military research and breakthroughs we wouldn't have lots of other cool stuff like the microwave oven. It's like that trickle down theory thing.
