I think to much immigration is a bad thing.

Yes, we need new to build new schools and other facilities to accommodate immigrants, but what this guy doesn't mention is that immigrants create value as well. They can work, they can start companies - the same as any other person.

This guys mentions immigrants "tearing the social fabric" a few times. To me, that just sounds like racism. He's doesn't want to hear tejano music when he's driving to the grocery store. But what he doesn't get is the thing that makes America great is not the cultural background of the individuals, but the way society allows the smartest, hardest working individuals to rise to the top. The American Dream doesn't care what color your skin is or where you come from. So bring 'em on. More people means more progress.

Congratulations! It only took two responses before someone trotted out the tired old "immigration reform = racism" conflation. Here's your strawman trophy.

I don't think he gave this entire presentation, and did all this research, just because he's tired of tejano music. Also, that you equate "immigration" with "Mexicans" shows your own little racism. Did you hear him say what percentage of immigrants come from Mexico? Probably not, you were too busy nursing that strawman.

Regardless, he never said immigration is a bad thing. He's saying that too much immigration is a bad thing, and I think he made his case very well.

If you'd like to do what he did - that is, present some data to back up your assertion (that unfettered immigration has no negative impact) - I'd be happy to hear it. Something tells me, however, that this will not be happening.

Well said, I couldn't agree more.

I don't think all immigration reform is based on racism, and I never said that it was. What I actually said was his "tearing the social fabric" line sounded like racism to me. Which it does.

Thanks for the strawman though :)

"I don't think he gave this entire presentation, and did all this research, just because he's tired of tejano music."

That was a bit of a joke. I think his real motivation is that more brown people in this country = less power for white people.

Lastly, the majority of immigration comes from Latin American countries, so it's generally safe to equate immigration with them.
