What do you think of Lawyers?

The lawyer profession has always interested me, and I was just curious about that you think about them.  I know some people say that thier "leeches", but personally I disagree.

Thier simply making thier case, a thing they were paid to do, am I right?

Anyone who says the profession of debating is a bad thing should not be on this website. Therefore I can not understand why people would be opposed to them.

In this profession they work more than almost every other profession and are paid rightly so. It takes years of preparation and training to get into this profession and to criticise someones job and what they like doing is to criticise the person themself.

I could go on but I shall keep this concise. Never in my professin have I met someone who blatantly calls my job and some of the people who belong there scums.

What makes me dislike lawyers is not the fact that they debate for a living, but their debating strategy and tactics, which are often unscrupulous, and also their debating skill. While I'm sure there are some excellent lawyers around, the average lawyer whose arguments I read doesn't impress me at all.

The true "professional debaters", I believe, aren't lawyers but philosophers.

That said, lawyers do play an important role in society. I think their role is somewhat manufactured, and I can imagine a complete overhaul of society that would dramatically lessen our need for lawyers... but until such a revolution comes, we will continue to hire lawyers and appreciate their services.

Lawyers are debaters in a general sense, but more manipulators of the law. Apparently, law is only written in the sand. The U.S. Constitution has been shredded for decades.

The more government passes needless laws, the more lawyers.

What occupation is more important? Engineer or Lawyer. My vote is engineer and I am not an engineer.

I upvoted you because I am an engineer ;)

Oh, yeah....., and I don't like lawyers ;)

Side: Extortionists

Most lawyers are professional manipulators and legal extortionists.

I agree...I don't think they are bad people. They are doing a job, an important one. Most of us at one time or another need legal representation. Yea they charge a lot..but so do doctors and dentists.

Hey personal trainers at gyms can make over 60.00 for 45 minutes.

Depends.

They shouldn't be vilified for simply representing bad people. you need people to do that or the justice system just doesn't work.

However... there are lawyers that make attempts to present the best honest defense available, and then there are lawyers who will search out any possible loophole or technicality to get their client off regardless of their actual guilt or innocence or what the evidence they know exists says on the matter (Aha! Line 14 section 7 of this warrant paperwork wasn't properly filled out with time and date! The police finding the body of that 6 year old girl is inadmissible in court!!!! Yay!). Those people are scum.

They are good at what they do, sure some are overly priced but that only shows you how good they are.

I have a lawyer for all my personal bussiness and I have to tell you that she is worth every dime I have to pay for her services.

Lawyers are intelligent people who deserve to get money, because it is their job. Without them, anyone can be punished because they have no defense. They are necessary so they may also have some money for it.

Side: Intelligent people who deserve their pay

They are money grubbers and they will win any case if the right amount of money is given to them.
