What is British culture?

After living here all my life I can't really put my finger on anything being specifically British.

What is British culture?

Rain, umbrellas, afternoon tea, Queen Elizabeth, pubs, werewolves.

Where are the werewolves?

In London! (Seen the movie? There is even a song)

They don't have one any more. It offends minorities, remember?

Come on, can't they still have rain, or will it offend the Saharans?

Exactly. That's the point.

Brits don't have a strong culture. Which is why they don't have a strong sense of identity or national pride.

Having a cup of tea or going down the pub are not what makes British culture, but they do point out to the fundamentals of British culture.

For me, being British is being able to laugh at yourself. At your mistakes. At your ideas. At your everything.

And that is the beauty here. We don't take things too seriously. And how could we? We have a weather that can change from sunshine in the morning to heavy snow by afternoon.

Also, all around us, there is a sense that we've been there and done that. Historically we've been through so many things that the rest of the world, especially the Americans, are only now beginning to go through. We've had an empire. We've had the greatest play-write in the world. We have the remains of a monarchy. We've had religions. And we've been around many times to see history repeat itself. Which is why we've become sarcastic. It's also the reason why we laugh at Americans for being earnest.

From a religious perspective, the British have never really took things seriously again. Our king started a whole new religious branch because he didn't agree with the Catholics! The Muslims are having a hard time now in Britain, and many have attributed this to racism. But it is my opinion that the British do not hate the Asian race. They hate the way the Asians take their religion so seriously.

Now, who wants a brew? :o)

Lol. That's the point. Brits don't have a culture. Not much of one anyway.

Whatever was great about britain has passed. Now it's a soft weak nation. TBH Britain -especially the british empire- is a relatively short lived empire. It hasn't been around to see everything. It's made a quick - extremely detrimental - dent in human history. That's all. Now it's literally as Cameron (who I hate) puts it. 'Broken Britain'.

Isn't shit to be proud of being British now. The parts of history that aren't bullshit and lies is full of bloodshed, murder, rape etc. The future prospects are weak as it will be overtaking by developing nations in every single aspect. The present - nobody is happy with anything, kids are spoilt, either complete pussies or complete fuck ups. No communities, morals, respect, honour, dignity. It's only going to get worse. That's my opinion anyway. Some idiots think it can get better. Maybe the new government may be able to do something about it.

They hate the way the Asians take their religion so seriously.

And that is where your weakness lies. I don't agree with Islam and how muslims are trying to push their beliefs into English laws and culture, but to not take your religion seriously is fuckry. End of.

Do you live in a cave?

Whatever was great about Britain has passed.

Can you elaborate? What are those "great" things you are talking about and when did they pass?

Now it's a soft weak nation.

Really? In what way? Economically? Our pound is still stronger than all the major currencies out there. Politically? We have a dozen institutions that keep each other in check. We have a monarchy that still has an influence over the common wealth countries and a queen that commands respect the entire world. Military? We had the power to go thousands of miles away and bring down a dictator. Whether you agree with it or not is beside the point. The point is we have the military power. Arts? Our actors are now scooping awards from right and left. We have singers and bands to satisfy ever taste out there. Health care? We provide for all our citizens. Hardly a "weak nation" as you put it....

Britain...It hasn't been around to see everything. It's made a quick - extremely detrimental - dent in human history.

Can you be more specific? Or is that just an opinion?

Isn't shit to be proud of being British now.

I was not born here neither. I became British. And I am proud as hell. It is people like you who still haven't integrated into the British way of life that feel shit.

People who put their traditions and religion before their duties as a citizen are always going to feel shit in Britain. And so it should be.

You talk about communities and morals and respect. What have you done for your community? What have we got to thank you for?

You are very unthankful for what you have. I would like to see you spout this kind of garbage in other countries and see what happens. See what they do to you. But no. You do it here because you know that Brits will tolerate it. And that's another part of British culture (perhaps not a good thing): they tolerate so much that they even put up with idiots like you.

I like how your quotes and ideas all sound like front page slogans from the Daily Mail and you quote Cameron's "Broken Britain". If you had any brains you would know that these people are talking about people like you. If these people had any power the first thing they would do would be to get rid of people like you.

You have 877 points now, and almost all of them represent a turd that has come out of your mouth.

Hey dont run away from me get back here ;)

So this is what you said in the header of your debate;

"After living here all my life ",

which arouses me to ask ,

Do you call yourself a Brit?

"I can't really put my finger on anything being specifically British." ,

which arouses me to ask ,

Do you think it has something to do with the fact that it is so multicultural?

You should be proud of it, it isn't perfect but no culture is.
