What is Racism?

"Reverse Racism is a phenomenon in which discrimination, sometimes officially sanctioned, against a dominant or formerly dominant racial or other group representative of the majority in a particular society takes place, for a variety of reasons, often initially as an attempt at redressing past wrongs" it is becoming more and more of a commonly used phrase  across the world. Does it make sense for individuals to say it's not real?

Racism defined:

Definition of racism

1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

2 : a doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles b : a political or social system founded on racism

3 : racial prejudice or discrimination

99% of what the left calls racist is BS; they only need to look in the mirror to see the true party of racism.

Today many African-American argue that Black individuals cannot be racist. Claiming that racism is only possible by those in power oppressing minorities.

Does this means that the KKK or other antisemitism groups aren't racist because they are not the majority?

http://sociology.about.com/od/Ask-a-Sociologist/fl/Whats-the-Difference-Between-Prejudice-and-Racism.htm

Within academia racism is often discussed as a systemic issue however the colloquial use of the word 'racism' is more akin to the words 'bigotry' or 'prejudice'. Certain ways power is arranged can certainly not be conducive towards racism directed at specific groups however those people who do not experience racism sure can experience other forms of prejudice.

If you were to suss out the meaning from of your generalization above many of the speakers premise would explain something in the vein of what replied. What I said certainly isn't uncommon by any means, a quick search supplied many examples besides my first more academic one. 1 2 3

I actually know of no Blacks who use that lame excuse as to why Blacks cannot be racist. And I live near a large city with a huge Black population, and have many Black friends and colleagues.

They all correctly know that, yes, of course Blacks can be racist. As can ANY ethnic group or person.

Look, the suffix "ism" simply means "the practice of..." whatever the prefix or root word pertains to. Like: alcoholism; albinoism; altruism; liberalism...whatever.

Ergo: racism is simply the practice of being prejudiced toward a certain race, or mistakenly believing one's personal race (a myth, btw) is superior to another.

Look no further than our local Winklepicker for a great example of this.

Thanks.

What is Racism? It perfectly defines the Democrat Party. If history doesn't scare you then take a look at it.

Actually, if you knew anything at all about the history of today's Democratic Party, you would realize that, beginning with LBJ's "Great Society" policies that spurred the Civil Rights Movements of the 1960s, you would know that the Party has been far, far more supportive of minority rights than the GOP.

The Dems have also always supported anti-racist policies such as EOE and Affirmative Action. They also of course had the first Black President.

Thus....your accusation of the Dems being racist is so wrong and erroneous as to be truly laughable.

Just like most of your posts.

Given your right wing bigotry and reactionary posts here, I would think it is safe to say that you are probably one of the more racist people on CD. Thus, the very last dude qualified to throw any sort of racist allegations.

In other words: it would serve you well to close your mouth--and rest your typing fingers--and read a history or political science book once in awhile.

Capisce?

Groovy.

Racism is a MADE UP WORD coined in 1902. It is used as a political and ideological weapon. It's the same way they created words like "Islamophobia" or "Black Lives Matter" or even how they are using terms like "Fat Shaming" or calling everything "Bullying" to shut you up.

Do you think that accusing your enemy as a racist back in 1392, was going to shame them and stop them in their tracks from conquering your village, killing your men, taking your women and children? They would laugh in your face.

But today, you call someone a racist and the entire world stops dead in its tracks because everyone has to "gasp" and tread carefully.

If you want to character assassinate someone, the oldest trick in the book is to call them a racist, homophobe, xenophobe, or islamaphobe......pick your weapon. They are all today's silent killers.

While I somewhat agree with you, I would like to point out that technically all words are made up.

IMO, you have to have some sort of intent to be racist. I believe that racism is juat having racial prejudice, meaning that if you're going to be racist, you have to believe that in some way you're superior due to your race. Anyone can be racist. Being a minority does not exclude you from thinking you are superior due to race.

I think what radical leftists call out as racism constantly is just racial bias, which isnt always wrong. Racism is a form of racial bias, but racial bias can be unintended as well. I perosnally think that everyone has racial bias towards every race, it's common sense- but that doesn't make it a bad thing or make you a racist by any means. At worst it's just a misconception.

As for reverse racism, I don't think it's a thing. Racism, even if against a majority, is still racism.
