What is Your Deepest Fear?

I came across this poem by Marianne Williamson many years ago and have always kept it nearby.  I agree with her more than I sometimes realize!  I believe that in finding our inner core of belief we discover that we are not afraid of failing...we fear sucess!

What is it that you fear within yourselves?

OUR DEEPEST FEAR "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us." We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." Marianne Williamson

If I had power, I'd use it and probably abuse it. But wasn't always like this. I guess I've aged like some wine and turned to vinegar ;)

I can agree with it on certain points. Is it fear of being something great or is it the responsibility that comes along with it?

I for one doubt myself WAY too much. It's gotten to a point where I need to punch my own self right in the face. lol

Side: I agree with this writing

Ah, there's the rub B. along with being or becoming something great comes much responsibility. One would naturally fear the result of achieving success and might have a problem proceeding because of it.

It's always the self-esteem issue, isn't it? We always say pride comes before a high fall, but that doesn't mean we can't pat our backs for a good piece of work done! Either we lack confidence, or that we are afraid of being overconfident. Besides, with all the belittling from our parents, (with good intentions, I hope), it's really hard to actually not say that too much 'power' is good. After all, power corrupts. We avoid all these stuff and attempt to hide our abilities is because we are afraid of being viewed as an outcast from our friends. We want to stand out, but we are afraid that others may not take it as well. But seriously, if they are true friends, then they would really want you to succeed, isn't it? But human beings are creatures that are very much prone to jealousy, and friends are humans as well.

Gosh. I think I'm digressing. >.<

It's true. You can run this around in circles all day but the result is the same. We fear what is most powerful in ourselves and believe that is a bad thing...success. Your true friends would support you in any endeavor you chose for yourself. At least, I should hope they would.

Well, like if I suddenly had the chance to become king of the world, I wouldn't be scared to take it.

But I am deathly afraid of spiders.

Does this mean I'm just scared of becoming a spider?

lol thats funny.

Going to the ER to treat a small bite vs effing up and ruining thousands of lives.

I guess power is worth the risk muahahahaha.

I understand what the writing is saying, but I'm not sure, (when it comes to me), if it's much of being afraid of success as it is me leaving my "comfort zone" for something that will probably make me depressed. I mean, people correlate success with happiness, but even the most successful people are somewhat depressed with the way things have changed. I hate getting attention, so by being successful, it would mean gaining more attention and having less privacy and "alone" time than I get now, and it would probably feel like crap. So, I guess what I'm saying is I don't thrive for success for as much as I'd rather thrive to be content with what I have and where I am; I don't feel the need for so much change no matter how big I "dream."

my deepest fear is my friends and familys deaths and after that it would be my own...

Side: I disagree with this writing

Yes, camroony, that's a very common fear among people. It's almost impossible to fathom that happening but, I assure you, you'll not be alone at all...just more on your own and self-reliant.
