That's probably the only way to really win.

Outright reject your opponent's points and instead just restate your original opinion. Rinse, wash, and repeat until your opponent gives up or gives in. Attrition, my friend.

What constitutes a win?

Popular vote?

Convincing the opposition that you're correct?

If the opposition stops responding?

All of the above?

If none of the above, then what?

This is why there is no strategy.

For me, it would not be necessary to convince the opposition (though it would be nice), but to convince a future reader who doesn't have invested feelings either way.

You don't, you just learn a new perspective

Debate until your arguments get down-voted and then you know you have crushed your opponent with the truth.

You have to be on your toes in the rebuttal and press tight your counter-part by out-rightly denying his points, one precaution probably, get less tempted to press further

The best strategy is to choose a topic you have an extensive knowledge about, or gain an extensive knowledge on a topic. Most importantly, you must be strong on the side you're on and represent it clearly. Don't be so strongly towards your side you get mad at a refutation. Simply used your extended knowledge to refute a dispute logically and calmly. Hope this helps! :)

Also try lots of debates. Experience is helpful as well. Just don't start fights instead of debates lol!
