There is very little "winning" in a debate in terms of a scoreboard, but often there is a desire for more information and to find the truth that makes sense to you. It's interesting to see another person's side of things, whether or not you agree with it, opening your mind and seeing new sides is I suppose a form of winning. Side: To find the truth
To SOME, it's a place to LTMFAO and call people names while they play dumb. It's not quite about finding the truth always.. Though I'm not denying the truth in statements of an argument, It need not always be to verify how true a statement is. Often debates have a common objective, but different ways to achieve it. Such debates depend on which approach is better. Personally, I just love the reward from using reasoning to debate.. To ensure that your viewpoint is presented and delivered in such a way that all opposing opinions are eclipsed and your convictions reign supreme. People will almost always acquesse to the argument made by the strongest personality. Note the mindless hordes,( the so called silent majority) following Hitler, Stalin and now Kim jong un, and the likes of. Side: To win
