What makes a person a good citizen?

To a regime, a good citizen is an obedient and loyal one.

Sometimes (in extreme regimes) it's better to be a bad citizen if the regime is too corrupt but usually you're better off obeying the rules and playing the system against itself to make any long-standing change.

Notice I never said 'honest', just obedient and loyal.

How come you never answer a question but instead go off on a tangent and answer something that was not asked ?

To avoid being a bad citizen, one need only be law abiding. To be a good citizen (people like to say model citizen), one is expected to also be productive and perhaps charitable.

Hello A:

"Law abiding", huh?

So, what law do I follow? Concerning marijuana, my states law is in dire CONFLICT with federal law.. As we've discussed, NOBODY obeys the 55 MPH limit.. Does that make them bad citizens??

Furthermore, I don't believe there are ANY "model" citizens, present company excepted..

-Not all laws are morally equivalent.

-Being a good citizen is not necessarily a moral condition.

-Law is not the same as legislation.

-It’s understood that a law abiding person is not so 100% of the time, just as an honest person is not 100% honest 100% of the time.

-Federal Marijuana Legislation is not Constitutional.

Hello D:

Being a good citizen is kinda like ice cream.. Everybody has their favorite flavor.. Some think being PASSIVE, obeying the law, paying their taxes and voting makes them a good citizen.. I wouldn't argue with that..

For me, however, I'm an ACTIVE citizen.. I'm a warrior.. I join groups. I take to the street. I'm civilly disobedient. I post on the internet.. I think that makes me a good citizen.. Some would argue with that..

But, there are NO rules for being a good citizen.. We only make rules for people who aren't good citizens..

It depends on your worldview. To conservatives a good citizen respects the flag and the pledge, donates to help their community, and works hard to create capital to support themselves.

To a liberal, a good citizen walks in lockstep with the hive at all costs, hates America, and you must find a way to reach as high as you can on the opression totem poll, and scream about social justice nonstop. Whether you actually try to help anyone in real life is not helpful. Screaming and shouting down opposition is helpful.
