What should I take from Florida doing better than NY on Covid

To date, Florida has had about 76,000 hospitalizations and 28,800 deaths.

New York state, which has about 2 million fewer residents, has had 89,995 hospitalizations and 37,000 deaths.

That lockdowns just slowed down the inevitable and that viruses aren't slowed down by anything that isn't a 100% quarantine? Ya know, science?

That God hates libs??

Be careful what you wish for, eh Con? Perhaps He will spare you from an afterlife of being treated by your own leftist standards. I'll wish that for you. Sound nice?

Now this is somewhat of a obtuse matter, but it goes to show you that Florida's government probably had a better method of care. While they also didn't have to deal with some of the same cramped conditions that NY's inner city areas did.

-

But we already know that both NY's mayor and governor, apparently did what they could to make the issue worse. When the pandemic was just starting they told their people to ignore the current administrations guidelines, and Cuomo did his best to ship as many Covid+ individuals into situations where they could infect the most people. And these people turned out to be senior citizens, so you already know how that was going to end.

-

Hell the mayor apparently did his best to target minority communities with his own lockdown practices. So he hasn't garnered much support from them in the past two years.

In Florida, the city with the largest population is Jacksonville with roughly 890,500 people living in 840 sq miles. In comparison, New York City has roughly 8.4 MILLION living in 302 sq miles. The number of deaths in NYC alone is 32,626 and the number of deaths in ALL of Florida is 35,267. So yeah, you're comparison doesn't really work to your favor.

It's even more profound than just the raw stats:

80.3% of deaths are from people 65+ years old.

12.9% of NY state is 65+ years old.

20.9% of Florida is 65+ years old.

Florida had almost double the dry tinder, no firefighting measures, more idiots (just try it, Florida man) and yet still less of a fire.

If WHO recommendations against lockdowns, and the scientific studies saying they are ineffective weren't enough for you, perhaps the results will be.

California shut down almost completely. Their attractions, beaches, Disney World, Fisherman's Wharf, National Parks, etc. Nobody went there. Fires and several disasters forced the mingling of thousands, forcing thousands of first responders and health care workers into close contact. They in turn had to go home to their families.

Florida, on the other hand, stayed open FAR more. People came from many states to "mingle" and party. Sports like college and racing were allowed to be more careless. The visitors, for the most part, stayed for a week or two then went home ... carrying the virus OUT OF Florida to their home state ... like NY! Florida may have made out better statistically from Cal., but, we have little idea just how many deaths they caused in other states! Their Governor has blood on his hands! A LOT of it! It's because he exported the virus that doesn't make him LOOK responsible for as many deaths as he IS responsible for! (And makes other states look worse).

Florida caused deaths in other states? Surely that would also apply from other states to Florida?

Yes, California shut down, Florida didn't. And this is evidence that it was for nothing.

You support government tyranny for the greater good of the collective, a greater good that amounted to literally nothing, because intentions do not translate directly to results. You advocated untested methods and got unpredictable results.

Because NYC is more concentrated than Florida.

And lockdowns work, by the way. The only way the UK has gotten this far is because we've been locked down for months.

Florida has a population of 21.48 million and an area of 65,758 square miles. Much of that is uninhabitable. 4.5 million Floridians were 65 or older in 2019.

New York has a population of 19.45 million and an area of 64,556 square miles. In 2019 there were 3.2 million New York residence 65 or older.

The U.K., held the unenviable global record of the highest covid-19 death rate for a long time.

Their highly efficient vaccination program saw the number of deaths drop into daily single figures some weeks after its introduction and have remain so to this day.

When the lock-down regulations were relaxed during Christmas 2020 the number of infections and subsequent deaths soared.

The conclusion must be that the U.K.,'s success in controlling the pandemic is attributable primarily to their immunisation roll-out with 'lock-down' playing an important but secondary role.

As the lock-down regulations are relaxed the effectiveness of the Astra Zeneca vaccine will become apparent.
