What should be more important in politics?

Economics

Morality

Morality? You mean like anti-gay marriage weirdo cult stuff? Or you mean making sure murderers and thieves are dealt with properly?

I think that there should be laws preventing people from harming other people.

As far as economics goes, I think the government needs to be able to handle patents and have information sectors relating to foreign trade.

A large part of government is making sure to protect the environment. Strong laws that aid in research and science in order to give us efficient energy and renewable resources would positively influence the nation, and even the world.

It's important long term to keep the environment healthy, but only important short term to help people get and stay rich.

Well, if the other side means "morality is important to discuss," then no. Morality should't be an issue in government. Basic ethics such as protection of life and property should be, but worrying about what two people like to stick up their own butts shouldn't be up for discussion.

Economics is a far more complex issue that requires debate. I personally believe in free markets and virtually elimination of government involvement, but that is one of many theories that should be put to the test of debate.

Side: Economics

Economics is not even part of politics. Keynesianism is the reason beyond this perception of combining economics and politics.

Side: Economics

The power of the wallet should be the #1 priority and the morality issues can take a long hike.

I would argue that moral economics should be more important in politics. We have these bizarre notions currently that an economy must always grow if it is to be successful, and that so long as a few people get wealthy everyone will get wealthy. These attitudes are unsustainable. An economy can stagnate and still ensure that the national population have a high quality of life, and relentlessly pursuing growth is environmentally damaging. Secondly, money flows upwards not downwards. Employees produce the profits, not the employers. Making employers rich will not make employees rich - not without redistributive taxes.
