What should the death penalty be?

My thoughts are that 1.) It should be a choice of the prisoner, no matter their sentence they can choose to die. 2.) They should be able to choose what method they want (within reason). 3.) If unable to decide... this would be their way out. If nitrogen asphyxiation is not available to the prison, then a firing squad shall be used instead. 4.) A psychiatric examination shall be conducted at least every week for a three months to determine if they are ready to die (and not being told by voices to do so). Side: Lethal Injection

I would say that we should go for the whole eye for an eye thing, but that doesn't work. I am a fan of the electric chair. it is sure to kill them and it is excruciatingly painful. If your mother was brutally murdered, you wouldn't want the murderer put to death while he/she was dreaming of teddy bears and cotton candy. You would want the bastard to feel at least a fraction of what he did to your mom. Argue if you want but please, be logical. Side: Electrocution

I'm a huge believer in capital punishment out of principle. For me the penalty has to be the electric chair. A great and unique invention. I'd like to see reinstated and to grow as a universal and standard form of punishment wordwide. If you take someones life you deserve to die a terrifying death. Side: Severing of the brain stem
If terror is your goal, I can come up with suggestions that beat yours by miles. A. Stoning B. Crucifixion C. Burning at the stake D. Thousand cuts E. Hanging, drawing and quartering F. Impalement G. Scaphism H. Immurement Ah, we humans are so inventive when it comes to ways to make fellow humans suffer... :D Side: Severing of the brain stem

If you take someones life you deserve to die a terrifying death. Do you even understand that is an infinite regression? I kill you. Someone else kills me for killing you. Someone else kills them for killing me. Your "eye for an eye" interpretation of morality leads to the extinction of the species, which makes it stupid. Side: Severing of the brain stem

I think that the most humane death is instaneous vaporization. If there is one thing that is infalliable, it's a really big explosion. Besides, the state can save money by killing many at once. Then again, we do run into the problem of having no body after that... Either way, lethal injections require the right dosage as given by human hands, there's room for horrific error. Severing the brain stem is another surgical thing that relies on the surgeon NOT making a mistake. If you want prisoners to not suffer, but still fear capital punishment, and do it in a way that doesn't hurt, completely destroy the body in one quick flash. Side: Vaporization

If we're going to have the death penalty at all, we need to take hints from North Korea: Public executions with antiaircraft guns. What we do now of trying to make the process look as pleasant as possible only prolongs the suffering of the person being executed, often times clearly torturing people to death with experimental chemicals. We at least need to make it quick, and in order to do that we need to make it nasty. Put them in front of twin M2 machinegun mounts. And stop doing it in some corner of a prison at one in the morning, put it in the public square at noon. Make sure the kids get the day off of school and have front row seats. And make the sentencing jury pull the trigger. Then with all of this on display we can ask ourselves how civilized we really are. Side: Vaporization
