Hmm. This probably should have been an open debate rather than picking a side. I feel all circumstances have to be taken into account when attempting to deal with murderers. Firstly, their mental state has to be correctly evaluated. Was the person who committed the murder in sound mind and aware exactly of what they were doing? Secondly, was it a cold calculated and premeditated murder, or was it a "spur of the moment" attack; for example, finding your partner in bed with someone else, snapping and ending up killing them. For those who commit premeditated murder and are in sound mind to understand what they were doing, life in prison or execution should be expected. Whether to choose life in prison or execution should once again depend on the circumstances and certainty of the guilt of the accused. Have they admitted guilt? What chance do they have of rehabilitation? Should the taxpayer be forced to pay for their incarceration? Etc, etc. I'd say in most cases, life in prison is the right way to go. For those who show no remorse, are definitely guilty and have no hope of rehabilitation, execution is a valid option. Side: circumstances
