Alcohol. As a college student, this is my disposable income.

Maybe you'll just have to start going to more parties where they provide the alcohol instead of having to hit up the bars :)

Yeah, come on HGray, there is alway free alcohol if you know where to look for it. Know what else? Drinking will help get you through the recession. Check out the supporting evidence: alcohol sales climb during a recession!

I am going to buy a bike and start biking to work again. I did this last spring/summer but I am in the market for a new bike that isn't quite so heavy. Can't wait!

Get a beach cruiser! It will weigh 69lbs, it only has 1 gear, and you have to use a coaster brake...but they are freaking awesome. You could get a bike with a sissy bar and streamers.

If it got really bad, I'd sell my car. I already bike to work and do most of my errands on bike. My car is a luxury.

I've already cut down on starbucks. I'd probably end up eating out less than I do. Maybe bring lunch to work and cook dinner in more often.

Bringing your lunch to work is a great way to save some serious coin. In fact, this article argues that you can save over a half million dollars over your lifetime just by bringing your lunch to work instead of going out.

I don't know, I live pretty skimpy now. But, prolly end up giving up cable and internet.....which sucks big time!

More interesting reading, for if things get even worse:

I'm not sure I would "give up" anything, just be more conscious of what I am spending. Perhaps give myself a cash allotment for the week. A budget, yes, that awful B word!! But if we all stop spending, then this situation just keeps getting worse.

Is 'nothing' an acceptable answer? Seriously, I can't see myself being impacted all that much. I drive 4 miles to work, I don't eat out all that much and my cost of consuming really isn't all that elastic. I want what I want and I'm willing to pay to get it.

Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning ('climate control). Uses as much electricity as everything else in the house.
