When a country is attacked by armed invaders it is defended with all forms of weaponry including guns. Americans are good at defending the ground they stand on. Ask the British and Santa Anna's Mexican armies. When one's home is attacked by a mob of feral rioters one must stand one's ground and defend their property and family with lethal force if deemed necessary by the defending victim. No one is in danger of being shot by a defender unless they go on the offensive and by doing so are reasonably perceived as an imminent and deadly threat. And then, bang, bang, you're dead. Arguably, it depends on the ground upon which you're standing. If you own the said ground and are attacked with force while holding a firearm, then it would be a reasonable action to repel the attackers with your gun. If you are a visitor who has no legal claim to the land which you occupy and are assailed then ''discretion would be the better form of valor'', or run like hell. If however you are unable to outrun your attackers who clearly intend to knock-seven-bells out of you then pull back the hammer of your revolver and give a warning shot between the eyes of each approaching aggressor.
