Where were you when the Twin Towers were destroyed on 9/11?
I remember I was 49 years old, on my way to work in Manhattan, and I was crossing the Brooklyn Bridge on my bicycle. I saw the first explosion out of the corner of my eye, stopped, and watched with everyone else when the second plane hit. I was stopped on the bridge for at least an hour and a half, before I was able to think to call my family. My wife and son were still at home, perfectly OK. Though my daughter had grown up and was living in Boston, I called to make sure she was OK as well. The rest of the day was kind of a blur; I distinctly remember ignoring work - like most people that day - and meandering around town on my bike, just kind of feeling everyone out and understanding what had gone on. Though most of the day is hazy to me, I clearly and vividly remember the attacks; the cars on the bridge stopped, and everyone got out to watch. The horror in the air was tangible, and I remember talking to a man a few years older than I was, speculating on what could have triggered the explosions.
Tell me your story.
